Well, it eludes me how you know your bargains are great if you don't compare.

Good point.

Well, it eludes me how you know your bargains are great if you don't compare.  Recently I was looking for the Cleveland Quartet's recording of the Beethoven string quartet cycle.  Lowest price I could find on Amazon was $50 for a used copy.   Snagged it for $24, new, on Berkshire.  Similar experience looking for Hyperion recordings of Arnold Chamber music, Amazon Marketplace undercut by a factor of 2 on Berkshire.  Anyway, all the more for the rest of us!

There are several problems with your post, Scarpia:

1. You don't know what kind of recordings I look for, when I buy my recordings (most of which have been in last few years), and what sellers I've bought from whom I know sell good merchandise for great prices.

2. I have done plenty of comparison shopping and the fact remains that Amazon Marketplace has been the best resource for me and what I look for when I'm buying CDs and Berkshire doesn't interest me and their "sales" aren't that much cheaper than an Amazon Marketplace seller's price. Trust me I've done my homework in this department. I doubt you will be able to go anywhere on the Net besides Amazon and buy Gunter Wand's Bruckner symphony cycle with the Cologne Radio Symphony on RCA for $33 brand new, sealed, which is one out of hundreds of deals I've received on Amazon.

Anyway, my point is the old adage "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it."

Good point.

He has no point. He simply assumed I never have done any comparison shopping, which is totally ignorant.

Well, I'm feeling that this could go on for a number of endless & useless posts, so will not continue the discussion, except to state that those who have not visited BRO, take a look - you might be surprised and thankful -  :D

BRO has some amazing deals, but unfortunately my bank consider BRO an "insecure site", therefore, a special authorization would be required to buy there.  :(

So naturally you get around on a horse.

I'm sorry, I probably missed some part of your explanation because I understood that you were not interested in comparing because you were entirely satisfied with Amazon... And, obviously, without to compare is difficult to decide if you have or not a good deal.  :)

No, not nasty, just honest. I get tired of people who assume things in which they know nothing about. Not only that, but your responses to my posts, especially about recordings, usually have some kind of negative comment in them, but then you redeem that comment with something more civil, which is like punching me in the face on purpose, but then apologizing to me for doing that.

No problem. I do a lot of price comparisons when I'm about to buy something and in most cases Amazon has the better deal.

Correct.  BRO rarely stocks CD's that are in good demand because there is no reason for record companies to unload those CD's to BRO on the cheap.  This is pure economics.  At any rate, BRO is a good source for many classical music recordings that are less well-known which you can buy at substantial discount over what you can find on Amazon ...

Erato/Elgarian,  Why is this considered the last in the series of Italian Cantatas by this Italian ensemble?  I do not think Apollo e Dafne belongs in the cantata category ...

In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

That's an excellent disc.

I already own all of Neumann's other Martinu discs so why not? :D Glad you enjoy his conducting as much as I have.

From Glossa'a own site:

"For the final volume in Fabio Bonizzoni's survey of cantatas written by Georg Friedrich Handel during his stay in Italy, the background scenery moves – like a reflection of the Grand Tour – from Rome to Naples; probably the troubled times in a Rome besieged by Imperial troops during the War of the Spanish Succession may have encouraged the young, itinerant Saxon musician to consider that heading down south was safer and more conducive for his overall career prospects.

It was a time when Handel was conceiving the three highly-charged cantatas to be heard on this disc and he would have been aware that Naples was blest with a bass singer, Domenico Antonio Manna, possessed of a prodigious vocal range, encompassing two octaves and a fifth. And maybe, Handel wrote two of the pieces performed on this disc – Apollo e Dafne and Cuopre tal volta il cielo – with Manna in mind, even if the former cantata was perhaps completed once Handel later had reached Hannover."

From wikipedia:

"Apollo e Dafne (Apollo and Daphne, HWV 122) is a secular cantata composed by George Frideric Handel in 1709–10. "

Have you already ordered? There is one there that I bought and was disappointed. If you have already ordered them, I won't say which one so as not to prejudice you (besides, you might like it more than I did).
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Sergeant Rock

Bruce recommended this years ago, and MI reminded me of its existence a few weeks ago. I finally own it. From an Amazon seller:

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."
