Gurn Blanston

Having grown quite fond of Anima Eterna Orchestra through their Mozart disks, when I saw this Haydn come available on eBay for a song, I just snapped it up. Hoping it will present some nice performances of these 3 standards!  :)

The new erato

Some new issues, preordered from presto:

Mozart: The Six Quartets dedicated to Haydn & Six String Quintets

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haydn: String Quartet, Op. 103 in D minor

Raphael Hillyer (viola) & Claus Adam (cello)

Mozart:  Six Quartets dedicated to Haydn (Quartets 14-19)

String Quintets Nos. 1-6 (Complete)

John Graham (viola II)

Clarinet Quintet in A major, K581

Harold Wright (clarinet), Alexander Schneider, Isidore Cohen (violins), Samuel Rhodes (viola) & Leslie Parnas (cello)
Juilliard String Quartet: Robert Mann, Earl Carlyss (violins), Samuel Rhodes (viola) & Joel Krosnick (cello)

The new erato

#23028
And:

Superb music, some of Norways best, and though the Simax issues are perfectly acceptable, I really want to hear what a British orchestra makes of this music! The blurb "The two main works on this recording are among the peaks of twentieth-century Norwegian orchestral music" is totally correct.

The new Naxos series of Italian 20th century music under La Vecchia is some of the most important things to have happened among classical recordings the last few years (though one should also thank Chandos for their releases of Rota, Rosza and a single superb Casella disc).

I've long enjoyed their quintet set. Sadly I don't seem to have ripped it to my computer so it's stuck back in Texas. :(

Is this part of a new 'wave' of those Sony boxes? Might have to buy a few more of them.

Yes. Go to prestoclassical.co.uk, select future releases, and type Sony in the labels field and you will get a list.

And a ridiculous price, 15 Euro more or less (depends on VAT) for 6 discs.

Good ones, Karl.  I have both but have only scratched the surface of the Beethoven+ sonatas.

That box also has the Prokofiev Sonatas which I have long loved. So now that disc is free to ship off to an old friend for his enjoyment! : )

We should also thank Chandos for putting out recordings of Bacewicz.

Two great discs, I enjoy all of the Boulez/Schoenberg on Sony, and the price is normally good.

Agreed. I didn't really dig the Opus 29 until I heard this Boulez recording.
