They're currently sitting on a couple of Marco Polo recordings - I believe those were a large part in the composer's re-discovery. They do really need a reissue - so much of that catalogue does :(

Ah, I see. Yes, I remember seeing some Marco Polo recordings, I do hope the are reissued soon. I'll send a message to Naxos in request of this.

Hi Jeffrey - the original CD IEEE standards were published in a booklet w/ a red color cover (likely because the laser used on standard CDs is a red one vs. e.g. Blu-ray) - believe that Stuart was simply asking whether this disc is a standard CD or a SACD?  Dave :)

Thanks for the clarification.  In this case, I would have to wait for the physical CD to answer (unless Florestan, Greg or MC Urkneal have a chance to look at their copies first).  I have six recordings by Savall/Alia Vox.  Two are SACD hybrid and four are regular CDs, and I don't see any pattern of dates or performing forces to suggest what recordings are chosen to be issued as SACD.

ETA: FWIW, Amazon lists it as a Hybrid SACD.

This could be a listing error on Amazon.  I would go by the actual SACD logo on the CD jacket.  If it is not there, then the CD is most likely a redbook CD ...

Can't speak to any of the others, but that Tallis CD is excellent, although I guess it's too late to have it for Christmas (the liturgical date to which the music is connected).

If you count Handel Messiah as Christmas music, I have over two dozen versions of it between CD's, DVD's, LP's and open-reel tapes.  I also have Christmas music by the Tallis Scholars and other medieval composers.  I also have many versions of Bach Christmas Oratorio so I am pretty well covered ...

My copy says "Hybrid SACD".

Be it as it may, this is a fabulous disc. You're in for a real treat both musically and sonically, Jeffrey.

I have noticed some of the Alia Vox recordings are released in both redbook CD and SACD formats with the latter being priced a little higher ...

Good choice.  This one is great and comes at one hell of a price.

I am rather surprised that even labels such as Naxos have not recorded any of his [Novák] work. Normally a good resource for less known composers. I might write to them suggesting they record some of his works. Someone has to promote him! ;)

Naxos has released Novák's "Trio quasi una ballata Op. 27" played by Joachim Trio. I don't have that disc but it is interesting. There is piano trio music by Smetana and Suk too on that disc. I don't have anything by Novák but I would welcome better coverage of his music by Naxos and other labels.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

No need to wait.  There are over 10 recordings currently available that are devoted to Novak.
