Last Christmas truly was a white Christmas in Germany. Heavy snowfall that lasted a month and as cold as I ever recall in the twenty years we've lived here. I prefer the current tropical heatwave  ;D

Yes, I spent three days in early December 2011 in Munich... the city park was beautiful to walk round, but my goodness was it cold!

Unfortunately they are part of my Christmas presents and I can't listen to them till tomorrow:

Merry Christmas.

I bought this excellent Bach set by Richter early this year.  While not HIP in the usual sense, it was very well done ...

Merry Christmas to you too!

I must admit, I normally tend toward HIP performances in Baroque, but Richter's interpretations seem to be so indispensible to so many knowledgable Bach lovers, that I felt I had to own a set...  8)

The ones on that list that I don't yet have, I also really want.

The Weinberg/Toccata disc is the best single recording of his music that I have heard.

It was either that or the CPO disc that had the 5th Sonata on it, looks like I made the right choice :)

I'm still looking to get the CD of the solo viola sonatas, but whenever I want to buy music, the price really makes me lean away from it, as I want to get as much as I can.  One of these days, I'll just have to bite the bullet, and get it  8)

Couple of used purchases...

I already have Sudbin, Tipo and Horowitz in some sonatas... just wanted to hear how it sounds with Scott Ross following the numerous recommendations on his version :

For RvW, I only had a twofer with chunks of this boxset, just curious to discover the symphonies in their entirety :

Apparently so, because there is no way in hell that I was going to pass up this set for under $15 (plus shipping):

There's still one left, by the way.

I find it a bit funny about people who love music (as we all do) somehow get music for Christmas.  I admit, I used to.  However, I think unless it's very rare stuff, my wife would simply rather not buy any music (she knows I'll get it anyway at some point), but get me other things I want.  This year, she gave me a Seattle Mariners jacket.  Love it, never would have bought it for myself, but that's fine.

The only music-related gift my partner got me this Christmas was a large-capacity hard drive that I will use to keep an extra backup of all my digital-format music. Meanwhile, I've handled the music purchases myself. The latest batch:

Scriabin piano works by Igor Nikonovich, Varley Kastelsky, and (Scriabin + Medtner) Vladimir Tropp.
Samuil Feinberg piano sonatas. Clementi by Olivier Cave (modern piano) and Edoardo Torbianelli (fortepiano).
Handel organ concertos by Dantone/Accademia Bizantina. Bach cello suites by Quirine Viersen.

Whenever I see these, I wonder whether Bis was having an in-house contest to see who could design a cover that would be the least appealing to impulse-purchasers.

Amazing music, but whenever I see the graphic pop up on my media player when I open the album it's never a positive experience ;D

A fine choice, Papy Oli. Andrew Davis's RVW cycle is definitely one of the more consistent ones available. This set, which I own as well, will also give you a chance to hear Job, A Masque for Dancing, which I consider one of his finest works.

An old-fashioned Boxing Day sale at the local L'Atelier Grigorian produced this fine lot. Viva Haydn!

:-) True, they're not pretty. (But as you say: amazing music!)
