In German Hammer is a noun, the verb is "hämmern".

Yet, curiously,  to "be - hämmered" does not mean what would seem so likely.

...and?

Thought it a very enjoyable trifle - I thought the brass and timpani parts were overt tributes to the Janacek (Glagolitic) which was the centerpiece of the program, and I really liked that 'tribute'. :)

That little clip I provided was certainly enjoyable. It's too bad the whole work isn't uploaded. :(

I hope you didn't pay a lot for those, Jeffrey.

Not really a lot.

At one time I considered getting the Living Stereo boxset, but decided not to when I realized that most of what I would want I already have as individual CDs or part of other boxsets (like Reiner's Strauss and DLvdE recordings).  It's simpler for me to grab whatever is interesting as individual purchases, like this.

I have the same "problem" with the Decca Sound set.  I may eventually get the Mercury Living Presence set, since I've only got one of the recordings in that sat now.

Yeah, I own many of these recordings on SACD and I own what I want out that box set, so I never saw any justifiable reason to buy it. As for the Decca and Mercury sets, I'm not too interested as I've got so many Decca recordings and I've never been impressed with Mercury's recordings.

The Mercury box interests me because it has many of the warhorses that I don't have any recordings of at all--the sort of pieces I used to hear all the time when we had a real classical radio station here in Miami (we have one now but I can only hear it on my car radio, not in the house!) but keep skipping when I want to buy now because there's always something more interesting on offer.

But my listening pile is large enough, and the hole in my checking account is large enough from previous purchases, that I don't expect to get the Mercury box anytime soon, unless someone starts to offer a good deal on it (ie, enough under a hundred dollars to make it seem like a good deal).

Meanwhile I just made another order off of Hyperion's Please Buy Me page-
Bantock Celtic and Hebridean Symphonies
Kuhnau Sacred Music*
Hahn and Vierne Piano Quintets
Vaughn Williams   Flos Campi Serenade to Music Mystical Songs.

Apparently I am now going to start getting the Bantock series of symphonies on Hyperion, since I bought the one with the Pagan Symphony already.  And I'm always a sucker for Serenade to Music, and this one is done by a group I like, the Corydon Singers.  The Kuhnau is not actually on the Buy Me page but filled out the order to let me get a small bulk discount.

FYI - Berkshire have the Bantock set for $30. If you want to buy them singly they have 3 more (+ the one you already bought) available as singles for $6.99.

Sorry, Harry. When even the label isn't bothered to disclose the contents in its website, no amount of wizardry can help. :( ;)

I rate all these discs highly, especially the Bantock and Hahn/Vierne :)

More angry, Modern music from England:

[asin]B005FFUXRA[/asin]

The 15-minute sample I listened to on NML of The House That Jack Built makes Elias sound like England's answer to Carl Ruggles --- dissonant, disturbed, bitter, and highly rhythmic. My kind of music! :D

Arrived today from Amazon IT: Grimwood's Liszt, recommended by Jens; and the cheap (27 Euro) Sinopoli box that Erato discovered. The box is huge. Instead of a slim box with cardbord sleeves, it consists of four double jewel cases to hold the 16 CDs. We'll have to rent an extra storage unit.
