Solti's expression as I see it: Yet another version, Rock?

Could be  ;D

Although my collection is rather light, relative to most of the other Mahler symphonies, when it comes to M3: I only have twenty. So Solti might be thinking: It's taken him 40 years to get around to my performance!?!

Here's your custom-tailored rationalization / wife-answer service:

"...oh, no honey, it's not because karlhenning that I got this 8th set of the Gurrelieder. Noooo, m'am! This is one of the essential recordings of Evelyn Lear who, as you know, just died. It's to celebrate her art and memory."

Unfortunately that excuse won't work. Lear doesn't sing on the Boulez Gurrelieder. I'll have to come up with another rationalization  ;D

ah, blimey. It's Das Klagende Lied that I was being confused about. Her only Schoenberg is the 2nd String Quartet.

Elgar's Violin Sonata, Piano Quintet and The Spirit of England, pieces I already own recordings of, but have been eyeing these for my collection.
Philip Glass's 9th Symphony and a collection of his vocal music (most notably Songs From Liquid Days) performed by the Crouch End Festival Chorus, I have already owned the Crouch End disc but have lost it so this is a replacement.

TheGSMoeller

Also this recording of Elgar's The Kingdom by Slatkin/London PO, I know this more than likely not seen as the ideal recording, although Gramophone gave it positive comments, but I'm still in the early stages of this work. Listened to Elder's performance the other night on Spotify for a first listen and re-visited it briefly this evening. This Slatkin disc was very cheap for a used copy so I snagged it, have Elder's in my wish list just in case this builds in me, which I'm sure it will.

Jeffrey, were you one of those who commended her account of La Stravaganza? If so: good show! : )

If you would be so kind to describe how it compares to Giulini, I would be very grateful :)
I am also considering that one as my next Trovatore, although I do not feel I really need another.
Happy listening!

I'm doing pretty good actually. The last recording I bought was on July 4th. Can I set a record? We shall see...

Arrived this morning: the Auryn Quartet's Op.71. This purchase completes the Auryn Haydn cycle (excepting Op.1 and 2 which I'll probably not buy).

The coupled Sixth is the better performance but I don't think Ormandy's Nielsen a must-have. The First feels rushed, the phrasing insensitive. If you don't have Previn's First (released the same year as Ormandy's First) I urge you to acquire it. And it comes with Martinon's great Fourth:
