I'm curious as to your impressions concerning Wellesz, Harry. He is mostly remembered nowadays as a scholar of Byzantine music.

Oh, he likes Wellesz, for sure!

I have nothing from any of the other composers Harry recently bought, although I have heard of ONE of them.

And then to think, I am still missing out Paul! on so many composers, and having to choose is a nightmare for me.
But then I have little time as it is already, so its a ongoing struggle!
This cultural heritage is huge....

Harry, the Beck Symphonies, Op. 4 are on my 'want list', esp. after hearing the Op. 3 works that I've (and you) just mentioned in the listening thread; plus, an excellent review on MusicWeb has been helpful!

von Herzogenberg - so far, just have three discs of his chamber & piano works; would like to obtain some more chamber works, plus have been considering the symphony disc below that you pictured earlier - another good review on MusicWeb!

Except for Saygun, I've not heard of the other composers - but let us know in the listening thread!  ;) ;D

Andromeda 3cds ANDRCD5127

Vey cheap as well...anybody know them?

I can vouch for the performances - top, top, top. But Andromeda is a pirate label, so the sound quality is anyone's guess. It could actually sound very good, provided they copied the right transfer... ::)

Could I do other than that Dave.
I expect them next week.
Most of the items I ordered in my home town, and not with JPC, to support this small but fine shop, in many respects.

Wellesz and Erdmann are among the most rewarding little-known composers you could think of (like Saygun, Pierné, Jones, Gerhard, Petrassi, Leifs, the list is seemingly growing twofold every odd year  :o). Buy with confidence.

I wouldn't complain if she read the telephone directory.

Yes, Eva is quite a special woman, as we could see a long time in Hermann und Tietjen, the German talkshow on NDR 3.
Until she was slaughtered in the media, being absolutely innocent.

Very curious on these, Dave. Especially the Sawallisch and the Lloyd.

The Lloyd got a 10/10 at Classics Today; the Schiff is apparently a no-brainer; the Brahms 4 in the LPO set is supposed to be the bee's knees; and the Nielsen set is supposed to be awesome.

I have yet to listen. :)

Schubert Symphonies 5 & 8

Christoph Spering / Das Neue Orchester

Opus 111

edit: review from fono forum

Fono Forum

Benjamin Cohrs

"klangschön und...mit großer Wärme" "durchaus ebenbürtig" :)
"einen Gegenakzent zur romantisierenden Aufführungspraxis setzen." :D
HIP for all and all for HIP! Harpsichord for Bach, fortepiano for Beethoven and pianoforte for Brahms!

All reads well that plays well  :)

One more review in German press:

"Scala

Ingo Wackenhut"

This refers to how this recording is well-planned.  :)  But what is a "Besetzungs-Blickwinkel"?   ???
