Very funny, wise guy. 8) I mean I bought a legit copy. Which, of course, means there's now a dodgy copy up for grabs ...

I knew what you meant but of course couldn't resist... 8)

Oh, the shame. :-[

That's always been a blind spot of mine. I do, of course, know the difference between these two words, but I invariably type the wrong one.

Distinctions such as discrete/discreet have always been nightmares for me... STUPID LANGUAGE :D

Thought I'd join in on this thread.  My purchases over the past week:

Made a rather nice haul at my local used CD emporium:

Beethoven: Late String Quartets.  Takacs Quartet (Decca)

Dowland: Complete Solo Lute Music.  Jakob Lindberg (BIS)

Machaut: Messe de Notre Dame.  Ensemble Organum (Harmonia Mundi)

Murray Perahia: Songs Without Words.  (works by Liszt, Bach/Busoni and, of course, Mendelssohn)

As far as new discs, I've realized a significant gap in my collection is solo piano work by Schumann, so I've begun to address that with these two:

Kreisleriana, Kinderszenen. etc.  Brendel (Philips)

Kreisleriana, Kinderszenen, Humoreske.  Radu Lupu (Decca)

Then finally, this amazing bargain:  Mahler: Complete Symphonies.  Royal Concertgebouw
Orchestra/Chailly (Decca)
, for $34.99.  This seems to be a special pressing available only in Canada;  You can tell by the bilingual cover:  "The/Les Symphonies."

Okay, I'm moving to your neighbourhood. We don't have used CD shops offering goodies like that where I live. :(

Edward recommended this one:

He said: "...the remarkable Baloghova/Ancerl on Supraphon, an essential Prokofiev disc if there ever were one, given that it also includes a superb Classical Symphony and Richter in the 1st Piano Concerto."

Danielle de Niese's looks recommended this one  ;D

Uh-oh...now you'll have to answer to the "holier than thou" smugness patrol who'd like to flay you alive for that, and the record company execs who dare to market her attractiveness as an attraction, and especially Danielle herself, for if she were any self-respecting woman and a true artist she would cover herself as under Sharia law!

CRAP, THE HOLLIGER CD IS UNPLAYABLE WHEN I TRIED TO PLAY IT AND TURNS OUT IT IS ROTTING! CD shop first thing tomorrow, unforgivable.

Indeed, I look forward to many more posts over the years on your pursuit of her.

Her recordings, I mean.  ;)

Is it this one?

French amazon seems the cheapest.

Couldn't resist and got it. 50 euros can buy you lots of Vivaldi these days! From what I've listened to so far (not much) I'm very satisfied.

Holy snapp'n!!

I dont' get in to T.O. often enough obviously.  But living in London, Ont., I do once in a while.  Where is the used CD emporium to which you allude???

Janowitz will melt your heart, Q! On balance, though, I admit to preferring Masur's Ariadne on Philips. Better orchestral backdrop with a much more playful Zerbinetta in Edita Gruberova (Geszty for Kempe). But Janowitz inhabits a plane all her own. Silky and pure, she beguiles the ear like few do!

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

It was a bargain, and I admire Kempe and Janowitz, so I figured - why not?   ;D

I already had the Böhm with della Casa with which I'm very satisfied.

Second Vinyl at Queen and McCaul (though apparently they're moving in the near future).  I've going there for years, but until recently always overlooked the CD section, being mainly interested in their LP's.

The two certainly make an admirable partnership in this recording, no doubt about it.

No quibbles with Böhm's Strauss! I have his Capriccio and Elektra and consider them amongst the best Strauss I've heard.

Wagner, The Ring Cycle highlights. Lorin Maazel, Berliner Philharmoniker. (Telarc)
I know i know, why a compilation? I am not ready for the real deal yet, as i have dozed off in Siegfried the last time i watched a dvd of it. This was a replacement for a rotten cd i bought anyways, so i guess it's worthwhile.

Corigliano, Oboe concerto etc. Humbert Lucarelli - oboe. (RCA Gold Seal)
