The last (the very last) CD purchase of 2008:

Why? Because many, many members told me to buy this well over a year ago, and like a prick, I ignored them. So I'm putting right that wrong. :)

And also, because marvinbrown seemed to be enjoying them so much when last he posted round here. ;D

It's okay and no more, by far my least favorite cycle amongst Kertesz, Rowicki, Suitner, ane Neumann. Kubelik just doesn't do it for me. I sense no sense of discovery like in Kertesz or the freshness of Rowicki. I find Kubelik's reading tired and uninteresting. The final three are actually pretty good, but the first 3 symphonies come across as cumbersome and desperately wanting some dramatic cuts. Maybe you'll find it otherwise.

Anyway I bought these:

why? Because I have no Karajan doing Haydn.

Haydn and HvK just sound like a good mix PW.  Will be interested to hear your thoughts.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

In general I like Das Wunder in almost everything he does, with the exception of Tchaikovsky and maybe Schumann. I am sure this one will be good. ;)

Five British symphonies today from Amazon UK; composed by George Lloyd and Richard Arnell:

Santa Pizza, what an interesting haul !!! Gotta listen to some Arnell and Lloyd. One of these days...

Found this second hand but virtually brand new in "The Music Shop" Brisbane today for $35. I got it mainly because of the Chopin disk which has the Op 25 Etudes. Sidoze has been onto me for a number of years now to add Sokolov's Etudes to my collection as he reckons they have no peer. The first listening (in the car) was very impressive. The other 4 discs contain Schubert D894 and D 960, The LvB Diabellis and a Rach/Prok/Scriabin recital. I've yet to hear any of these.

I also got

for $10.
Cheers

JPC still loves me even though I just got around to paying for several orders from October and November (they only sent one "reminder", very polite and non-threatening. I love this company).  Anyway, a rather harried UPS guy showed up last night around seven with a Christmas present from JPC. They sent one last year too. This year, Praetorius, a CD I don't have but one I would have purchased:

Just curious: do other regular JPC customers, like Harry and dB, get anything, or is it just for customers who reside in Germany?

I don't think I am a regular customer. I have ordered from them 2-3 times so far.  ;D
No presents for me.  :'(
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

That's not because of that. They just didn't have any CDs of music with multidimensional vibrating fields to send out as gifts, and they didn't want to insult your extremely highly developed musical taste by sending you any of the other banal stuff that idiots like the rest of us here listen to.

Pffff...when will it stop! Vibrational fields or not.
Ignore posters that iritate .

Are you sure? I thought I saw another Sokolov walking around town recently. Sure looked like him anyway.

Seriously, he's playing at the BASF concert hall in Ludwigshafen next March. I'm looking forward to it.

:) There's an Ivan Sokolov who's made a very intense recording of the very intense piano sonatas of Ustvolskaya.

PS - Sokolov is quite a big chap now. These days, if he wants to get around town, I think he's usually carted.
