A couple gifts from my wife:

and this one that the Dons recommended:

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Fëanor

Family members were so kind as to give me six these CDs for Christmas '08.

Haven't heard 'em all yet, but I do recommend the Nezet-Seguin /OMdGM for performance and sound quality; (it's an SACD: I've listen so far only in stereo).

Lethevich

The Shosty disc is very good.

LOL, Bill! ;D

The Muppet Dons are here for you!

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

I gave myself a Christmas gift.  :D

Great list, Andrei! Concerning the Borodin Trio renditions of Dvořák's piano trios, I hope you're aware of this reissue which, however, dispenses of Smetana's piano trio included in the original individual releases.
I was also meaning to purchase this particular Enescu disc you got (a lame excuse to abuse my credit card, I know), so here goes...

As I doubt any of this will be processed or dispatched before 2009 (some of the items being pre-orders anyway), it looks like I'll have plenty of things to look forward to as the new year enters.    8)

WHOA!! Is that a preorder? I can't want to hear it!

The Ravel/Daphnis/Boulez disc is a candidate for my desert island. Simply a stunner.

I would be very interested to hear your feedback on this one, come 2009. :)

That look intertesing as well. Brahms by the Gewandhausorchester and a new recording of the double concerto, with the right cellist. :)  For me, Repin and Chailly will be the "mystery cards". ::)

Yes, official release date (in the UK) is January 5.

Certainly. Although Järvi's version on Chandos leaves nothing to be desired, it's good to have alternatives. This one lingered on the wish-list for ages.

I have confidence in both.  8)
This one, however, will be a little late in dispatching; it's to be released on January 26.

The main reason I'm interested is Luisi, admittedly, more than Schimdt - in that sense that, if it's a good performance, I might use it as an introduction to the composer through a conductor whose style and general aesthetic I am already familiar with. :)

Incidentally, (heinous double-post aside), I just placed an order for:

The latter is an impulse purchase, but for 23.42 Euro (via Amazon.fr), I thought I'd be silly not to include it. Munch's Symphonie Fantastique is something I've been wanting to hear for a while, and one can't have enough of Walter's Mozart! :)

Good price! :) Might well be money well spent.
In many instances impulses like this opened whole new musical avenues for me. Please post your impressions. :)
