The Nicolai is beautiful stuff; the Mahler I'm listening to right now. I missed the concert...
Much looking forward to the Schieferdecker, who has popped up on a few delectable discs, but never (on my desk) as an all-disc composer.

I owned a few of these performances, but a lot of them I didn't own and some are even out-of-print.

Is this really $6 for 8 discs?

How's the quality/performances?

My pernicious influence at work again ;)

I had a bunch of much-anticipated items land yesterday:

Nielsen : the Danish symphonist 10 CD box
  Henze : Symphonies 1-6 / composer
Prokofiev : Sonatas etc / Raekallio
Mahler : Symphonies 1, 4, 5, songs / Inbal (the "Simply Mahler" box)
Penderecki : The choral works of (5-CD Naxos box)

Sitting on a pile on my desk, hoping I find the time to start on them today.

Meanwhile, my Shostakovich / Borodin Quartet box is still indefinitely delayed  :'(  :'(  :'(

Much stuff landed today:
The Neumann Dvorak from Amazon, which was obviously sent on something quicker than a dinghy.
Installment one of my almost weekly order from Arkivmusic,  meaning in this case a package with
--Bruckner Symphony 4, Berlin Phil. Gunter Wand cond.
--Haydn SQs Op. 20 and 33, with the sq version of the Seven Last Word on the Cross, as played by Quatour Mosaiques
--and the major part of an order from Prestoclassical I posted about when I placed it, some Vivaldi and much Naxos, and Goerne's latest installment of Schubert. See post here:

It was shipped in four packages, and three tumbled in today.  The only one not yet arrived is the new Petrenko Shostakovich recording.

In the space between my ears! :)

I'm surprised no-one ever commented on my mentions of the Penderecki box. Am I the only one who thinks this guy is pretty awesome?

I knew I'd acted too soon, when yesterday I registered that Dvorak Box in my card index alongside the Loch Ness Monster, the Abominable Snowman, and the Martian Canals.

The new erato

What! The snowman wasn't abominable?

I am curious. Link us up, laddie?

Back when I was doing my Master's, I looked through the score of his Te Deum....

Googled this unknown composer and learned he was Buxtehude's pupil. Made me interested. Too bad there aren't that many recordings and those few available aren't cheap.

A few good ones -- they don't seem outrageously expensive.

In my opinion £15 is corner shop price for a CD. I used to pay that kind of prices in the distant past but those days are over. Very rarely do I pay more than 10 euros (£8) for a CD delivered. This ideology makes it impossible to buy many items I'd like to have. I may never hear music by Schieferdecker (need to check Spotify...)

Why am I this parsimonious? That's because in the past I bought all 9 seasons on The X-Files on DVD for about 100 euros per season. Now you can buy those seasons for 10-15 euros each! Lesson learned! Never again paying more than absolutely necessory!
