What can I say? I've caught a little of the Berlioz bug going around, so I bought these:

Has become one of my most cherished Berlioz recordings. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

And a full-blooded, Modern reading of Symphonie Fantastique:

I heard Janowski's fantastique on reeeeally crappy headphones (at work). Wasn't too impressed, but the headphones have seriously damaged my enjoyment of very good performances before.

Now, that Naive CD with Harold is a wonder. Enjoy! :)

I might like it. Some of my favorites are on the slow side, e.g., Sinopoli/Czech Phil 14:28 and Eschenbach/Houston 13:54.

Adding my mite in--I like the Wit performances too, although I'm not too keen on the Alto Rhapsody.  It's the other works on the CD that clicked for me.

Good to hear, Greg. I remember reading your praises for this recording and I love both of these works and all performed on period instruments no less. Excellent!

Well, then you should learn from your own mistakes and listen with good headphones. :D I've heard nothing but great things about this Janowski recording and my own track record with Janowski has been a successful one. A great, underrated conductor I think.

I've been in the market for another Faure Requiem and this Marriner was certainly cheap enough:

Bought another Faure (this one on period instruments) and another recording of Durufle's Requiem:

Arrived this morning, two discs with music by a composer new to my collection: Anton Arensky (1861-1906). Symphonies 1 & 2 conducted by Svetlanov; and 5 Suites for Two Pianos.

You must have the Polyansky/Chandos recordings of the symphonies? I considered those but the price compared to the Meloydia put me off.

Just bought:

It was really cheap ($5) and if anything I'll have another performance of The Miraculous Mandarin. I've read this is a good one.

The BSO about have Berlioz in their blood. I still get shivers thinking back on a concert performance that Jimmy conducted of Les Troyens.

Yes. They are more expensive, but quite good. I imagine Svetlanov will be good as well (though they have some different fillers with only partial overlap). I have the Piano Suites, however, from Berkshire (way back when) on Hyperion. But I see that I have only 4 suites, while you have five. That one is also a much more recent release.

Was it the complete Troyens? That's got to require some stamina.

Complete; it was a glorious night at Symphony Hall.

Very cool!

Hey, I sent you a PM reply, maybe it didn't go through, sent it from my phone.

There were all priced reasonably and, of course, the music, as we all know, is beautiful. I didn't have enough performances of Brahms' Requiem nor did I have enough of my favorite Debussy work Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp.

The recording of music by Guillaume LEKEU by the Trio Hochelaga was such a treat that these two discs seemed to self-recommend for more late Romantic French chamber music:
Georges MIGOT  Trio (ou Suite à Trois)   and  Le Livre de Danseries for flute, violin and piano
and Joseph Guy ROPARTZ Piano Trio in a    and René-Emmanuel BÂTON aka. RHENÉ-BÂTON: Piano Trio

Whatever you think of these compositions (and I doubt you won't find them at least to your liking, do by all means get Arensky's Piano Trios!

Oh, second-rater might be accurate, but sounds unfair. At least the piano trios are unquestionably first rate, though.
