Quote"Mozart Requiem is, I prefer his Great Mass in C minor ever more!"
So? Everyone agrees that Ray prefers 427 over 626. :P

Are there many people who don't think the Great Mass (and if you ask me, even the Coronation Mass) are more sophisticated than the Requiem?
I'm not saying "more catchy"... and in fact, it might be the salacious, even crude, certainly shameless elements of the Requiem that make it so damn attractive.

The Requiem is to the Great Mass what the Magic Flute is to Don Giovanni. Roughly.  ;)

I don't know the answers. It's Mozart in C- and D-minor, respectively. That's all I care about. 0:)

Oh wow, that's a very interesting analogy! And although I've seen both operas live, I've never seen or heard either of the masses. I'll get excited now  8)

First rate Handel! As good as Minkowski's Ariodante, Christie's Orlando and Hickox' Alcina.
A desert island recording   :D
Nice to know, though I have to admit to simply buying this in exasperation as a really good HIP version of Semele seems destined never to appear.

Can't wait to hear these as Busoni is a composer whose Piano Concerto is the only work I know. Plus, I'm always attracted to operas that seem completely bizarre and in left-field somewhere.

I've been listening to this one again these past few weeks. Exquisite.

Good to hear, Karl !

Bit baffled on this one as Amazon Spain shows it in stock and yet their email indicates that the estimated delivery date will be advised separately (not the case for the atterberg ordered at the same time). ???

This is a very good box, with fine performances. I read my listening notes of some years ago, and they told me likewise.

A Semele is lacking in my collection, so I ordered this yesterday:

I've had this one quite a few years; not bad at all, but I made a mistake acquiring a modern band performance.

Is it two CDs or just one? Yeah, thanks Harry. I hope to enjoy it.

Yes indeed. I posted a follow up commentary - which now seems mysteriously missing - saying that the only reason I bought it was that I had despaired of ever seeing a first class HIP recording of Semele. The type of singing which I expect to hear on this set is not something I gladly suffer in baroque music, but we'll see.

BTW: There seem to be several posts missing on the board?

No, just mine and Monkey Greg's, which were likely taken down by the CIA. Yours is just a few posts down from the top of this page.
