I know I just made a big order but, has this ever happened to you? You want to make one big order and it is to be your last order in a long time. So you put things into your shopping cart and for a few days you keep them there, and add things to it until you really really can not think of another CD that you MUST HAVE. So you click that button.

But as soon as you order, you begin to have that recall or memory or whatever it is that for some reason has been disabled for a week. Suddenly there are 20 CDs that you should have ordered that you somehow just suddenly remembered! Ugh!

Ehhhhhh, sounds familiar, somehow.......

Oh, no, why did you have to tell me that?

Must resist....must resist....

(BTW, your image isn't showing for me.)Never mind, now it is.....that's a CD I've often considered and never gotten.

That was a wicked piece of intelligence! : ) How quickly was my shopping cart populated with goodies . . . I did exercise restraint, though, deleting three or four recordings which, nice though they are, are inessential for me.

I kept the damage down to three CDs/sets, and less than $30 including the shipping.

I have yet to order, and have struggled to keep it down to under a hundred dollars--although there's a number of things in there I have thought of getting over the years.  Tonight or tomorrow I will go in for a final edit and order.  If I'm lucky, by that time at least a few of the things I want will have sold out and become unavailable. ;D

Nice buy MI! - the 11th on that one is very good I think - its very fast!. Somehow Jarvi manages to keep the whole thing together. The Symphonic Poems are good too I think - the other bonus is the Age of Gold suite but I know you have the full recording of this one already? :)

Thanks, Conor. I own all of Jarvi's Shostakovich recordings on Chandos, which are a hit/miss affair, but figured I would give these a shot since it has some other goodies located in the set besides those symphonies. Yes, I own several recordings of the Age of Gold Suite and I own two of the full ballet (Rozhdestvensky, Serebrier). I think the biggest problem a conductor has with Symphony No. 11 is keeping the whole thing together and coherent. I would like to hear a faster performance of this symphony since, in my view, it's one of Shostakovich's more aggressive works. Symphony No. 12 is one of my least favorite symphonies of his cycle, but the main idea in terms of performance is to not let the music get mechanical because it's a symphony that I feel has some of the weakest thematic material of the cycle. For me, Rostropovich is the only conductor I've heard so far that has made a convincing case for this work.

So, is that a positive review of this one? Or just of Tureck and the record label?  ;)  8)

I think her WTC performance on DG is better, though this is just my opinion.

I wish we could get a Bach/Bylsma/Sony box with Bylsma's 1979 recordings of the CELLO SUITES, just because it'd nice to get those at a discount.  I wish I had waited for the little box pictured above, but I got the 1992 SUITES in this 2010 Sony France edition:

No real offers that I can see at Amazon US; I got mine from Presto, anyway.  IIRC there's no information whatsoever on the packaging or discs about the recording date.  I had to compare the total time of the discs to the nifty Bach-Cantatas.org Bylsma discog; and even that discography put the cover photo for this edition under the wrong heading [1979]!
There was also this almost-identical bach/Bylsma from Sony France ~2006:
[asin]B000GKH2A0[/asin]
which I think is also the 1992s, though I cannot remember my source.  Multiple customer reviews at Amazon France?  Hm.  Not very authoritative...

Shoring up holes in the collection that have long been beckoning for shoring; mainly things I have been enjoying illegally for some time now.  Plus some new explorations.

I might already have mentioned one or three of these.  The Arvo Pärt TE DEUM one of the small handful of recordings that I have re-purchased more than once over the years, usually after having more than one copy stolen from me by ingrates.  [Another would be the Jimmy Giuffre 3's 1961, also coincidentally (nor not) from ECM.]
