Sarge, if/when you're in the mood for more Feldman, this is pretty firmly lodged among my five favorite Feldman works (and it has enjoyed recent performances in both Boston and Atlanta):

Thanks for recommendation, Karl.

I will second that recommendation. The Carlifornia Ear Unit, especially their flutist Dorothy Stone, is something special!
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

I ordered a copy. I'll let my cousin listen to it eventually. She's a professor of music. Teaches flute.

Networking, are we, Karl?  ;D ;)  I don't know what she thinks of contemporary music. I'll find out.

I may have vowed to not make any purchases this year, but I made some recent trades with my Dad and here's what I received in the exchange:

I traded my Dad my entire Brahms collection as he owned a lot more of his music than I did. This same situation applies to him with Prokofiev, RVW, and Bartok who are composers he owned very little of, which I had more of. He and I both agreed that it didn't make much sense, so now he owns a lot more Brahms and I own more from Prokofiev, RVW, and Bartok that I didn't have in my collection. A win/win for both of us. 8)

Some good ones there, trung. Zemlinsky is an excellent composer. I hope you enjoy the music. Now, you'll get to hear Schoenberg's teacher in action. :)

Definitely, Greg. I've heard all of these sets before as my Dad let me borrow them to make copies of, so these aren't exactly 'new' performances for me.

Clever idea to get new CDs, but "logical" I don't find it, to part from the things you have less of. What is a drop of Prokifiev in an ocean of Prokofiev, compared to a sparkling few Brahms stars? ;)

But, you don't understand my relationship with my Dad. What's mine is his and vice versa. He's welcome to scour through my collection and make copies of anything I own. He's not only my father, but my best friend.

Here are the Brahms recordings he got from my collection:

Complete Symphonies, Bohm
Complete Symphonies, Barenboim
Complete Symphonies, Abbado
Complete Symphonies, Dohnanyi
Complete Symphonies, Solti
Complete Symphonies, Muti
Complete Symphonies, Chailly
Complete Symphonies, Haitink (LSO Live)
Piano Concerti 1 & 2, Fleischer, Szell
Piano Concerti 1 & 2, Freire, Chailly
Piano Concerti 1 & 2, Gilels, Jochum
Symphony No. 1, Haydn Variations, Szell

Plus, I like Prokofiev, Bartok, and RVW more than he does and he likes Brahms a whole lot more than I do.

Good haul, indeed, of an excellent composer.

Only one bit of Zemlinsky I disliked, and that was a performance of Der Zwerg... for a variety of reasons that included having felt let down by the music.

Actually, the way it worked, but wasn't completely set in stone, was he collected a certain set of composers while I collected another set, but this didn't exactly happen the way it should have so I ended up with many recordings that should have been in his collection and vice versa. But we're back to normal now. :)
