Of a total of 8,695 FM station across the US only about 150 of them are community operated. That means current community ownership of the FM waves is at 1.7%.

The Local Community Radio Act is currently before Congress. It is S.592 in the Senate and HR 1147 in the House.

This bill proposes expanding room on the FM dial, allowing proposed low power community stations to apply for licenses in between commercial megawatt stations, and eliminating the current third adjacent minimum distance rule. Low power stations are less than 100 watts and have been proven not to cause interference to stations closer than two clicks away on the dial.

Please ask your Senators and your House Representative to support this legislation.
