SACD is like the warmth of vinyl without the hiss and pops.

I love SACD. CDs sound thin by contrast :)

I don't think that I ever want to hear them then. I'd have to replace my collection.  :-[

Not on a high-end cd player they don't!!  See my post on 6/4, Reply #51, this thread

No fear of that happening, George. You'd be hard-pressed to find your entire collection reissued in SACD format. ;D

I agree. CDs usually (quality of the recording/mastering permitting) have a full tonal balance when the signal comes from a high-end CD player, sounding anything but "thin".

Good News! It was sure hard enough to find on CD.  :-\

Shrunk

LP.

Standard digital formats don't convey the same degree of detail and presence as analogue.  SACD may, but the selection is too limited.  No experience with DVD-A.

Reel-to-reel tape is probably best of all, but that's too much inconvenience  even for me.

The format that is to be preferred depends entirely on the equipment used fof playback.
I have all McIntosh pre-amplifying and amplifying equipment feeding two large corner standing Klippschorns,
I had a SONY 9500ES DVD,cd, SACD player. I had that for almost 6 years. And WAS quite happy with the way it sounded on all those formats. But then I got interested in the Denon 3930CI, which handles what the SONY did +DVD-Audio.

Sounds like an awesome system!  Could you post some pix?

Here's a picture of the system as I have it placed.

Equipment from top to bottom;
Top shelf - Denon 3930Ci - DVD, SACD, cd, DVD-Audio player
Second shelf- Scientific Atlanta HD Cable box - Model 8300HD
Third Shelf- McIntosh C34 Audio-Video Control Center (Have it almost 25 years) Love it.
Bottom Shelf - McIntosh Power Amplifier- Model 7270 (270 W per channel)
Also have this almost 25 years, and I LOVE it, too.
On either side of the picture are my two corner standing Klippschorns.
The TV is A Mitsubishi 52" HDTV,
On top of the speaker in the far corner is a Magnum 101  FM Tuner. There is only one classical music station in this town, so it doesn't get much use.

I have no inclination or need to hide the wires. I really don't care how it looks, just how it sounds and the quality of the TV picture.

Iago, is that your substantial CD collection I spy reflected in that MASSIVE TV screen? ;D

That Denon has SRS technology which makes those older, conventional cds sound warmer and thicker, and improves the imaging and bass response as well.  It diminishes the differences between SACD and and conventional stereo cds.  DVD-A, which is hardly used at all for classical music actually has the best sound of all, even better than the SACDs.  The differences between conventional cds and the DVD-As is not as easily bridged by the SRS technology.

Another way of warming the sound of conventional cds is through the use of a tube amplifier.

Listen a**hole. I never claimed to have a "massive" cd collection. But I've gone to more "live" concerts in my 71 years than you will go to if you live to be 120.  I do have about 300 cds which are stored in another room.
If that's not good enough for you, you can K.M.A. I only posted that photo because I was requested to do so by a poster calling him/herself Shrunk.

Did you notice the smiley next to his remark? That, on this forum, and most others, signififes that the poster is merely joking around. How you interpreted this as anything else is beyond me. I should think that an apology is in order.  :(

Keep on thinkin buster. You have the gall to tell me to apologize when I asked YOU for a clarification of a remark you made towards me and you didn't have the decency to answer.  Stick it!!  I don't pay attention to smileys. I pay attention to content.
According to you, then, any poster can insult and denigrate any other poster or their post, to any degree they choose, and if that post is followed by a "smiley" all should be taken as a joke?  When I insult somebody I don't follow it with a "smiley" in order to provide myself with "cover".
If you can't walk the walk, don't talk the talk.

Are you able to disagree with a sense of civility? I'm sorry for neglecting to respond to your request to clarify a comment. I really haven't been checking that thread very often. You claim to be concerned with the content of remarks, but you are aware, I'm sure, that many remarks can be interpreted in different fashions. You could read that as a snide attack, but it also works as a harmless joke. Using an expletive on the other hand, leaves little room for interpretation.

You posted an interesting response in one of my threads, and it has been bothering me for sometime. You said that we on GMG were far too 'uptight'-

Allow me to finally respond to that post now. I've been a member on this forum for quite some time now, and have enjoyed my stay immensely. I do not overstate, when I say that these are some of the most decent people I have ever had a pleasure of knowing. I traded a few posts with Mark, and I assure you that his remark bore no ill will to you.

"Stick it"?

(in the future when I use smileys, you can be sure that I'm only joking. You had a large body of text with no indentation. Hence, the formatting skills coment.)

Wanderer

Hybrid SACD. The best of both worlds (superior sound quality and backwards compatibility).

Hey, Iago. Read my post again, buddy. I'm not referring to your CD collection as 'massive' (though, from what I can see, it ain't small), but the size of your TV screen. So, as you can see, I wasn't taking a swipe at you - think we just had a little misunderstanding there. Sorry if that pissed you off. :)

And Steve, thanks for watching my back. No need in this case, but thanks anyway. ;)

No problem, Mark.

On a different note, I've signed up with emusic. Thanks for the recommendation. A lot of my favourite recordigs featured over on naxos are available for purchase here. The audio quality is excellent. Any recs?
