I'm interested to explore these works.

Any suggestions for an outstanding performance would be appreciated...Ottensamer, Meyer, Neidich?

:)

I'm partial to Janet Hilton on Chandos.  It's a 2 for 1 item also having the Clarinet Concertino, Clarinet Quintet, Silvana Variations and Grand Duo Concertante.  That's a great deal of music for no more than $15, all superbly performed.

Chris - plenty of options available, and many at 'bargain' prices!  :)

The 2-CD set suggested by Don looks quite good - may add to my 'wish list' -   :D

I have another inexpensive set on Virgin; 2 discs split between the Weber & Crusell Clarinet Concertos w/ Antony Pay on a 'period instrument' + the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment - not sure if you want a period performance or a modern clarinet, but just another consideration.

Good luck in your selection(s) - Dave

Try Kriikku on Ondine. Wonderful - even better than Sabine Meyer IMHO.

You are aware, of course, that Weber's music was actually written by the elusive Mr. Luchesi, who authored most of Mozart's & Haydn's work, and the non-deaf half of Beethoven's oeuvre? Hell, some people have checked the watermarks and have conclusive evidence even Stravinsky's pre-serial work was written by Luchesi.

Thanks for the recommendation above; I was thinking of purchasing the Sabine Meyer recording, but you seem to prefer the one above?

Just checked Amazon - there are two different CDs listed, both on Ondine and shown below - I'm assuming the same recordings, but does any one know if one might be a more recent re-mastering and potentially better sound?  Thanks -  :D

Yes, I saw Kriikku live with the NZSO recently and he was outstanding.

Maybe this one is worth getting...  ???

Only the Clarinet Quintet is common to both discs, so there's more Weber on the blue/red disc.  I have no idea concerning the relative sound quality, but only the all-Weber disc remains in print.

I have the left CD of Kriikku. It is livelier and more buoyant than the S Meyer (which I have Herbert Blomstedt's autograph on it!).

No regrets on buying the Kriikku for me. Enjoy!

Thanks Don & MR - my fault - did not even look closely @ the works on those two discs - I'm interested in the Weber works, so will put that one on my wish list; I have all on two different discs, but another performance will be of interest - Dave  :)

I re-checked my 2 CDs of Kriikku and Meyer. I prefer the former by a mile.
