Interesting article.  I have gone to HDTraks before, but I hadn't heard of Pristine Classical.

While I have read the arguments on the differences with MP3s, I don't know if I can really "hear" the differences.  I feel like I owe it to myself to get the best, most accurate recordings on the appropriate medium; however, since I can't really identify the differences, I have mostly stuck with MP3s -- I like to have it NOW I guess.  :-)

Any good side-by-side type comparisons that anyone knows about to show these differences?

I think it all depends on your equipment and your listening habits.

Search this site. We have had 3 or 4 long and sometimes contentious threads about the relative virtues of compression. Every disk I buy is immediately ripped to MP3 and the disk safely stashed away, so clearly I am on your side of the fence here. :)

Glad to have someone on this side!  I think that I'm supposed to be able to tell the difference, but maybe my ears are just not that attuned (or it could be the technological aspects as referenced a couple posts above).

Well, for people who live for finding defects in things, then I'm sure they can be found, even in CD's. I actually focus my attention on listening to the music. If there are defects, they are very subtle and infrequent, and can't compare with the spinning crap called LP's that I spent my first 35 years with... :)

As long as you continue to focus your attention where it belongs, you will rarely if ever have a complaint. :)
