BWV 1080 classification?

Keyboard
Any
Should be keyboard, but let poor Springrite have his say
Not any, but not just keyboard
It's not a keyboard work

DavidW

Okay it's opened up again, please give me three more each (per genre) if you have any.  When that's died down again I will clean up the list (promise!) and then we can move onto phase 2. :)

Gurn Blanston

OK, David, I'll have a go:

Organ:
BWV 542 Fantasia & Fugue in g minor "The Great Fugue"

Keyboard:
BWV 827 Partita #3 in a minor

Solo:
BWV 1011 Cello Suite #5 in c

Orchestral:
BWV 1067 Orchestral Suite #2 in b minor

Sorry, Dude, I don't know any singing except for the lovely "Coffee Cantata". :)

If I put that charming viola da gamba sonata on the list, it would be charming but not one of his great masterpieces.  So if you want to make sure that I don't put it on the list, people will have to get crackin' on coming up with more works. ;D

DavidW

Oh there we go awesome Gurn!  That's what I'm talking about. :)

I wanted to post it this afternoon, but I couldn't remember the BWV #'s   :-[  And then you grabbed off my Orchestral Suite while I was posting! But that's OK, I'll keep it anyway. :)

Poor Gurn, you didn't need to remember I would have looked it up when went to do the official cleanup of the list. :)

I realized that I might as well just wait and only do it once. :D

Okay, there are some I think that are great that have not been mentioned yet, a couple, probably, because they are too often played, but here goes:

Cantata: BWV 82, "Ich Habe Genug"

Vocal: BWV 229: Mottete "Komm, Jesu Komm"

Keyboard: French Suite #2 in C Minor

Solo/Chamber: Sonata in B Minor for Violin and Harpsichord

Orchestral: Concerto In F Minor, BWV 1056

So far, the organ works are an undiscovered country for me.

Cantata: the gorgeous Trauerode, BWV 198

:)
Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Seeing the Art of Fugue in the orchestral category is irritating.  Also, the E minor English Suite is BWV 810; dump the (5).

    Organ:
Prelude and Fugue in E flat major "St. Anne", BWV 552
Pastorale in F major, BWV 590
Prelude and Fugue in E minor "The Wedge", BWV 548

    Keyboard:
    Art of Fugue, BWV 1080
Capriccio in B flat major, BWV 992
French Suite No. 2 in C minor, BWV 813

    BWV 1 - 1126 all included, I would say.

    Ja!
Which means, btw, the Art of the Fugue.

    Sir,
I'd like to complain about this list.
I mentioned the entire Third part of the so-called Clavier-Übung!
    I don't see it!
    Where have you put it?
    Shame on you!

Sincerely yours and mine and everyone's,
    et cetera et cetera,

    Mister Marc (mrs.).

You have offended the rules and therefore should be banned from this thread .... IMHO. $:)

You need an anti-Bach thorned flower remedy.
