How far do you sit from your tv? how far do you sit back in the theater?

Inspired by a recent discussion on the movies thread.

8 feet from a 40 inch for me.  And I like to sit about 3/4 way back in the theater (0 being front row, 100% way back being last row). :)

The new erato

8 feet for 42".

In the theater I have no choice but to sit where my wife sits.  ;)

1/4 row back at center isle movie theater, complete field of vision taken up!
(for some reason no problem getting those seats.........  >:D)

When I was an undergrad I set that close in the theater to get the most immersive experience, especially since my tv watching was on a little 15 inch tube tv. :D  I didn't have a 5.1 system and big tv, and so I went to the theater for absolutely any movie I wanted to see and would sit close to the front, and it beat the heck out of renting a vhs. ;D

I don't have a telly; at the cinema, I'm probably two or three rows behind DavidW. I like sitting off to one side though. :)

Home viewing system, head position in chair 7.5 ft to screen........no need to go to theater, chair is quite comfy  :D

Power conditioner bottom shelf, middle shelf has Time Warner HD cable box and Oppo blue ray player with 12" x 12" black pattern marble floor tile on top to dampen vibration (not sure if that tweak will stay)

Be fun to share any other pix of peoples TV set-up.............

Nice!  Okay here we go, two of them done without flash, thought it was brighter in the room than it was. :P  Well even if it's dark you can tell how far I am from my tv.  And you can see that I was too cheap/lazy to mount my surround speakers. :D  Gotta fix that one day.  The two things by my cheap entertainment stand are a 360 and a ps3, the two things on the lower shelf are an Onkyo receiver and my Oppo dvd player.

I sit 2 meters (7 feet) from my 32" TV. In movie theaters I prefer to sit ~1/4 from the front (25%).
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Who/what created the universe? We have our answer!  :D

Yeah that's not actually a flash, it's my reflection. ;D

Too far away from our 32", 13ft. And visiting kids have blown the tweeters in the crappy 2.1 system I set up. Sorrow.

Theatre: Preferrably 33,33333% back.
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Sorry to hear that man. :-\  If I had kids I would only go with something cheap because you just know something might happen.

Only myself to blame. Too much gain in the system, and the little old Rotel integrated's volume control set but not fixed at 9 o'clock was not enough for probing little fingers, as I found out. It didn't sound very pleasing when it happened.

Next up is a 42" for my wife and myself. 10ft viewing distance and 5.1 with flat frequency response. The latter is the important. ;D

Yeah the sound is big part of it for me as well.  Some of those avr's have this thing called audyssey multieq where you use a microphone at several positions (and not just 1) like my old Denon used six positions and it figures out how to adjust the frequency response to make the response flat for that room.  It's pretty cool. :)

10 feet away, though our TV screen is nowhere near as sizeable as those here depicted.

I went to see World's Greatest Dad at the movies yesterday. I sat right smack in the middle row and in the middle seat. :)

I think Dark Angel just blew us away with his 52 inch, and no one wants to post more pics now! :D

I just know that someone here must have a 60 inch Pioneer Kuro, and I bet perhaps one or two posters have designed their own home theater with a front projector and all. :)
