The Quintets K. 593 & 614? ;)
For that I would gladly pay  € 27 or more as well.  ;D

No, the one with Ein Musikalischer Spaß and the horn quintet, marches, etc. - which seems very hard to come by...

The most I've paid is probably $80 for a rock record 10 years ago. But I really love to hunt for these OOP treasures. For classical CD's I normally would not pay more than $50 for a single CD. I think I have many CD's in my collection that are very valuable (for the right buyer) at this moment (some of them bought very cheap).

My humourous touch here isn't quite detected and appreciated.  Alas!  :(
But you are right that the Musikalisches Spass recording is indeed rare.  I don't have it.   ;D

I love L'Archibudelli's recording of K515, 516 so much, I almos find it inexcusable that they have never gotten around to doing the rest.   :-[

When I was young and stupid I once paid $200 for an old RCA LP of Serge Koussevitsky playing the double bass. This record is rare as hell but musically is really not worth what I paid.

Aside from that, the most I've ever paid is $60-70 for various LPs (mostly historic monos) from dealers.

You more than make up for it with the total bill, though!

I've never paid more than regular retail price for anything. Speaking of expensive CDs.... I have been looking for a CD version of Barenboim's

If you paid retail (or more), you paid too much :) I likewise only buy discs at discounted prices, with a rare exception where I'll pay retail. Never will I pay some of the ridiculous prices I've seen discussed here. There are a million and one other things to keep me entertained, and I have no reason to think one particular CD will dramatically increase my happiness to where I'm willing to dramatically decrease my bank account :)

I have become a budget man too. Years ago I could paid even 23,50 euros for one disc but not anymore. Nowadays I feel Bach's Cantata discs by Suzuki are expensive as I have to pay 13-14 euros for them.

As for DVDs, I invested 860 euros to all 9 seasons of The X-Files!  :o Sure, it's the best TV-show ever but still pretty insane...

Was it worth the price? I have ordered the Vista Vera vol. 4, 8 and 9 recently.

Haven't heard the whole thing, but can say unhesitatingly that in terms of perf and sound the Diabelli alone is worth it.  :)

Yeah, I could have got them for about 1/4 of the price if I had waited (I never anticipated such a huge price drop). 139,- euros is a real bargain Harry!  ;)

At the moment the first season is 17,49 euros in Play.com and the rest are 20,49 euros each. That makes 181,41 euros for all 9 seasons delivered.

Then again, I couldn't have enjoyed them back in 2003 if I had waited...

The X-Files episodes were released twice, the pricer early releases owed it to the lingering popularity of the series and higher quality packaging. They were re-released last year in more economically minded packaging, so much less expensive. I could not force myself to buy past season five... But now we are walking the bird. :)

I'm considering paying a premium for a single Celibidache EMI Bruckner 5th disc, but I think the set (95 USD at a few resellers) is a better option at this point as I would like to explore all of his EMI recordings.

Yowza!  The local classical specialist still has a copy of that for $15.  Perhaps I should buy it in case your friend loses it again.

I've paid $22-$24 per disc for several discs I've had imported from Japan (Ikuyo Nakamichi's LvB and Debussy) and Anderszewski's Szymanowski disc which I imported from Britain before it hit US shores.  I just had to have them.

For boxes, the list would include Scott Ross' Scarlatti cycle for about $135; Backhaus' first LvB sonata cycle for about $120 from Japan (and worth every cent and then some); the complete Clara Haskil The Legacy set a few years ago for about $150; and about $130 for the complete Robert Casadesus Edition, though this represents a major bargain.  Reason?  I wanted 'em.

For the Casadesus Edition, it was about lucky timing most of all.  I noticed it at Amazon France and wavered.  They had three sets left, so I dithered.  A few weeks later they had two sets, and then a few days later one.  That's the one I bought.  I haven't seen it listed anywhere since.  The best part: I was charged 11 Euros shipping, but it cost Amazon France something like 32 Euros!  It took five weeks to get here, but it was worth the wait!

You were very wise. I only discovered how really great Casadesus was after buying a few items from that French edition - it was too late to get the whole lot... ::)
