Is this real? And if so, has Leonard Slatkin lost his marbles?

Oh come on - that's gotta be a joke. Anything for attention I guess  ;D

Hmmm... it's not april 1st  ::)

Seriously, this has got to be a joke?

Oh yeah that's a joke, even if you buy into most of it, no one buys into this--

QuoteAnother of Slatkin's projects is to present the complete organ works of Cesar Franck, transcribed for accordion.

Where on Earth is the "gotcha!" news release and retraction?!

Brian

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!  ;D ;D ;D

I love the idea of a whole Bruckner cycle in one hour.  ;D

Although I beat him to the punch when it comes to making the Symphony of a Thousand into a chamber music piece:

Oh, I don't know. I thought it was pretty damned funny. :)

Agreed!  I particularly liked the part where he says that he was "roundly booed" so therefore decided to try the same strategy again!

Now that article has got me interested in hearing what some of that stuff would sound like!  :D

One of my favorite ideas. There are several works which would benefit from this application:
QuoteBut that is only the beginning of the new era. For the final work on the program, Rachmaninov's 2nd Symphony, the conductor is not only going to reinstate the cuts sanctioned by the composer, but will add some additional ones as well. All in all the total performing time will be about 12 minutes.

"The piece is so long and repetitive. Once you have heard the main tunes, well, they are so memorable that they do not have to be played again."

We should commission somebody to write a piece that rolls all of Philip Glass into 5 minutes. Or maybe one 20-minute Brucknerian mega-brass crescendo encompassing all the Brucknerian mega-brass crescendos.  ;D

Never been a fan of Slatkin's marbles. This seems to be a stretch, but if so, it may not be as much of a stretch as some people may think.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Or maybe he has early dinner plans that night.

"To begin, the orchestra will be seated with their backs to the audience."
Just a cheap ploy for the conductor to face the audience. Unless the revolutionary seating arrangements demand that the conductor too will have his back to the audience. That'll be some memorable conducting to watch (assuming the audience will be permitted to sit in the concert hall).

"Season tickets, subscription renewals and cancellations can be taken care of directly with the DSO box office."
Of course.
