These lists are all way too short for my liking!  ;D

Everyone was asked for their favorite 5 works - as this thread develops, you will have a large collection of chamber works to peruse.  But, yes, I felt that limiting my list to 5 was severe.  Such is life.

Why are we doing this?

Why not?
There are all sorts of lists, what are you listening to?, favorite this and that...
so why not a list of favorite chamber works?

1. Schubert: D 956
2. Beethoven: first razumovsky quartet
3. Janacek: string quartet 2
4. Mozart the hunt quartet
5. Bruckner: string quintet

I hate all those lists too. :)  If you have nothing to say about what you're listening to, why list it?  If someone does not want to use a list of favorites for the sake of listening to new or different works, then why bother?

I made my complaint to try to draw out the OP to give his reason, I'm interested in knowing what he's going to do with his list. :)  And if he does have something in mind for what he will do with his list, once he says what it is, how much you bet that changes the focus enough to change the lists themselves?

I like to list my favorites for no reason other then to remind myself about them and to listen to them again.

Is that a sufficient reason for you?  If not, I await you telling me how I should be posting.

I wasn't asking you Franco, I was asking AB68 because I want to understand the underlying purpose of the thread, and the context for which my list should be created to serve his purpose.  As I've already said in the post that you selectively replied too. :)

You asked why "we" were doing this - since I am one among that "we" I told you.

Yeah I got that.  You are so apathetic about your favorites that you need to list them to remind yourself of what they are!  You might be alone in that. :)

Franco

Oh, I am not threatened by being alone in any kind of behavior, are you?  Do you seek to hide among crowds?  Does that give you a sense of security?

I admit that sometimes in the quest for the all important NEW experience I do not return to previous wonderful CDs and find these exercises perfect for reviewing what I love but haven't listened to in too long of a time.

Why do we have to have a specific reason for posting anything?
Maybe the OP is just curious.
And maybe those who do not like lists shouldn't post or even open such threads?

ChamberNut

I actually do look at and consider other people's lists, as a guide of potential works to explore.

ChamberNut

Sometimes I just wish posters could post something like 'Favorite symphonies', or whatever it may be, and it can just be as simple as that?

Many GMG Members, myself included, have very little music knowledge and background, and cannot provide the same in depth analysis as some of the more seasoned, knowledgeable members.

Maybe, for all the music peons such as myself, we should just be relegated to posting into the "Classical Music for Beginners" sub-forum, until you can pass some advanced musicology exam quiz.

:D
