When did a woman first sing on stage? I was under the impression it was since the time of L'orfeo but not so. I know In handels time women did sing. How about Scarlatti's? When did it happen?

???  Right from the beginning?  I don't know about the first opera, Peri's Daphne, but least according to Wikipedia, the cast the second opera, Peri's Euridice, included Caccini's daughter Francesca.  And though Monteverdi's first Euridice was a castrato, his first Arianna, Penelope, and Poppea were all women.
