Haydn, Brahms, Prokofiev

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Ditto.  Though the Mozart/Dvořák was tempting.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Actually, there is not a set that I would snub.

How about Dittersdorf/Raff/Stockhausen   ;D

Sounds like a backfield for Army Football from the 1930's! :D

Do I get to take them with me to a desert island (or just their music)?

Durch alle Töne tönet
Im bunten Erdentraum
Ein leiser Ton gezogen
Für den der heimlich lauschet.

This is hard! :D

My natural choice would be Haydn, Brahms, Prokofiev, because it includes Brahms.

However, Handel, Beethoven, Webern is likely the group most balanced across all three members; even though Bach, Mendelssohn, Schönberg dominateson account of Bach, and another very strong composer (Schönberg)...

Ditto.  Close second with Mozart, Dvorak and Strauss (assuming Richard).  Otherwise it would be my last choice.  :D

"Which one does not belong here?"

Oh dear, this is why I was never a fan of Survivor--I just can't imagine voting anyone off the island!  These all fall into at least one essential group--composers I cannot imagine living without, composers I don't want to consider living without, and composers I need the rest of my life to learn about.  Some fall in all three groups.

I like this poll. :)

You are obligated to tell us who you voted for.  :D

I probably would have taken a group consisting of Bach-Turtmann-Krapstein... so long as I get Bach. And Mendelssohn offers me good late classical string quartets and symphonies; Schoenberg very late romantic pieces and modernism... so I'm pretty well off. When I'm sick of Arnold and Felix, the eternal Johann Sebastian can always lift me above and beyond tedium.

Where's Vivaldi/Dittersdorf/Elgar???  :o
