It has finally come to it that my girlfriend, who is pretty relaxed, said to me when she found another bag with two CDs: "honey, NO more CDs!"

Then we had a whole discussion whether I actually listened to them and if everything I got was all that worthwhile, or that all those purchases were just to satisfy a "hunting" (or hoarding) instinct...

I assured her that I actually listen to all that stuff and that there is almost no limit to what is good and worthwhile. A claim that she rebuffed with: "so you listen to just to the new stuff?" ::)

"No baby, I also listen to the CDs I already have." "How can you, if you already have so many and buy new stuff almost every other day? NO more CDs please, you already have enough!"

Well, what could I say? ;D I guess, enough is not enough..... >:D

Q

I was scared for a moment. I thought you had eavesdropped into the Pastia living room  :o. Eerily similar, whew! But then I realised that in the same circumstances my own better half would not have said 'Honey' or 'please'. I suppose you still have a few years before you ;D

Oh well...

So, when are you posting photos of the new girlfriend?   ;D
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let no such man be trusted.

I forgot which GMG'er (or former GMG'er) who had a tool shack in the backyard and store most CDs under the elevated floor there. He only kept about 200 CDs in the house. Every few weeks, he'd take them back to the shack and exchange another 200 back to the house. The wife still did not know he had thousands.

If he's a former GMG'er, could it be because he was one day found out???  :o

Mark 4:22. If it's in the Bible there's no escape. The Great Pretender is a song, not a real person, and certainly not an GMGer. The wife always finds out. There's even an opera character whose single pursuit in life is to find out and nag. Her name is Fricka. We're all doomed.

After just purchasing 22 CDs and CD sets for $350, I'm going officially cold turkey for the rest of 2012 and possibly for the first half of 2013. I'll be buying in 2013 if there's a sale on a premium label which takes up a big chunk of my wishlist, like Supraphon, Grand Piano, Alia Vox, or actually Sony. Or if the Decca complete Ravel edition dips below $50.

I've already told myself that at least a dozen times this year. ;)

A lot of good stuff there :). I can relate to the keep-an-eye-on-premium-label feeling. Those that I check for new releases more often than I care to admit are Alia Vox, Alpha, Aeon, Ricercar, Ramée, Arcana, Neos and Kairos.

I see we share an interest on Alia Vox releases, although I have stocked up on that one 5 or 6 years ago, so I am comfortably just picking up any new release as it comes out 8) (the same is mostly valid for Alpha also).

Here's a fun question for everyone who suffers with CDCDCD, what is the largest amount of CDs you ever bought in one order?

For me, I think it would 30. About 10 years ago, when I was going through decade long jazz phase, I bought 30 Bill Evans albums in one shot. Back then I was pretty insane with my orders, now I'm only about down to 20 CDs a week. ;) :P

228. It was about 1999, from BRO. I did more than 3 orders of 100 or more.

Separate CDs, the order I just made.
Combined total, an order a couple years ago where I bought the 100CD "Russian Legends" box set from Brilliant Classics for around US $40 in a clearance sale. Still one my favorite purchases ever, btw.

I should have made my question clear. Box sets only count as one purchase. :) So that order you made a few nights ago is the largest order you ever made.

The new erato

Bevaiuse of VAT rules, I always order small packages of a few items (under around 25 Euro I get them in my post without VAT and fees). The only time I have bigger packages is when they contain large boxed sets, and then I never include single discs in the order. So even if I have had some orders with from 50 - 250 discs in them, they have seldom contained more than 3 items.

I was just going to Post here yesterday. Huh. ;)

Since my moratorium (looks like I don't even have a Post on this last Page), I have still been plagued with the Obsession & Compulsion, even though I don't care to Buy anything. I have been trying to force myself to but something for for the sake of making myself feel better, but, I just can't justify anything.

So, I did find two sets that were 'needed',... no big deal,... and that led me to a current OCD with 'Light Music', because I DO need stuff to play in the sunny daytime.

So, I looked to see if there were any gaps in the Library-of-Collections, and lo!, the woodwind quintet section was looking a bit thin. I have now spent about $30 on three cds, all of them old. They were repertoire, so, I DO justify the purchases (though, I do have a hard time justifying the $30 ::)), and, I DO feel satisfied that I have plugged a gap, and, I DO look forward to the listening.

But,... I do also have to get the three packages passed the Eye of Sauron. :o :o

"Why are you watching for the mailman so closely dear?"

Horror gripped me as I heard those words. Beads of sweat began to trickle down the side of my face. I felt the heat in my face explode as I knew my hue had changed to a deep red. She... MUST NOT KNOW! :-\

Crap, I'm already reallyreally wishing I had ordered Piers Lane's Saint-Saens CD on Hyperion when I got that giant batch of CDs. :(

It's a wonderful set in terms of performance, but I really dislike the sound (the ONLY Hyperion I can think of where I don't like the sound of the 50 or so I have from that series, but there you go). I would recommend the Roge/Dutoit or other version over the Lane for that reason. It will be cheaper for sure.
