I'm not getting it for now because the way it is now, is not so different from my Iphone, just perhaps in larger format...

But it would be great when they add flash player from Adobe, plus other additions.

My brother in law and his dad are getting them because they do lots of traveling for their business, and this is the only reason I could think the Ipad is good for, traveling companion. Later on in about a year I'm sure Apple will come out with a revised better version, and then it would be worth it!

I think that it's stupid because if you want something bigger than a touch or an iphone then you can get a netbook for a fraction of the price of an ipad.  Not a matter of hate though, just meh. :)

I have a visceral, irrational hatred of all things mac... so, if I get my hands on an iPad, this is what I'd be doing to it:

I'll wait until they work out the bugs. Or just get another laptop.  ;D

Sounds like the device is essentially a toy for browsing the web, playing games, consuming various media.  It will depend on how fun the experience is, which is hard to judge from just reading reviews.  I am waiting for someone to make a book reader nice enough to satisfy me, and the thought occurred to me that this might be it.

I'm nearly perfectly indifferent to it.

There should be about half dozen of pads by end of this year.  Nokia should have one on the market by early fall according to some reliable source.

Pretty much what my feelings would be, if I knew exactly what an Ipad was.

There are many already on the market and have been for years.  Apple managed to make one that some non-negligible fraction of the population wants to own.  Probably I'm not among that consort.

The HP Slate, some say its better then the Ipad, because it has the Adobe Flash player among other things...

Screw all this portable, miniaturized crap. I will never relinquish my old school computer case unless they pry it from my dead, cold fingers:

This is what I use in my home, its the best computer I have ever owned. But the Ipad or the Hp Slate is a nice thing if you want to use the computer outside your home.

I'm an old skool PC geek, Apple is not for me because Apple things are basically too limited and closed. The dark side of not being an Apple user: I regularly lose the dick comparison battles when I travel 1st class by train, it's my IBM Thinkpad T43 vs. their iPhones there. Haven't seen iPads there yet. Thinkpad vs. iPad will be an even more epic loss for me...  :-\

It's the other way around, apple won't work with adobe because Jobs is opposed to proprietary plugins.  I don't blame him, I don't want the future of internet video put on flash, I'll be happy to see it gone.

I have mixed feelings about Adobe.  The existence of postscript and pdf format is a great advantage.  I get very annoyed when documents are distributed as "Word" files, which are editable, require propriety software and suffer version problems.   On the other hand, I find Adobe software extremely annoying.  For instance, photoshop is constantly trying to hijack your computer by running photo-downloading tools and picture organizers that I have no use for.

It's the opposite feeling for me. "Hehe, that person paid twice as much as they should've just because Apple made it, hehe" :P Whatever your fellow commuters think is irrelevent, as they are mad and wrong ;)

Saw an iPad in an Apple store.  I'm not sure I will ever get one, but I think the thing will be wildly popular.  Sure you can get a "tablet pc."  You have been able to get one for a long time and no one has wanted one.  Apple actually figured out what was wrong.  Clunky operating system, short battery life, no fun.

From what I understand, Apple engineered their own processor to get a the required speed and a 14 hour battery life.  The touch screen works marvelously, it is very nice for browsing the web (I was reading this forum on it) book reader application is way better than the greyscale ones sold by Amazon, Sony and others.  The WiFi version is not of much use I would admit, but the 3G version, which would allow you to take this thing out anywhere and start browsing, reading, e-mailing or playing games, will be killer, I predict.
