Malcolm McLaren, former manager of the Sex Pistols and self-pronounced Godfather of Punk, has died from cancer:

I liked Malcom.  He was just what the music industry needed in  the 70's.  I wonder if the Pistols will do a memorial get together.
Thank you for the post, nice to see him recognised here.

Yeah, those years of puberty, with a lot of the Pistols, Sham 69, UK Subs, Dead Kennedys, Stiff Little Fingers, Buzzcocks and Undertones in da house. In between listening to Bach and struggling with Mozart's Sonata Facile and lots of ferne Geliebten. So I searched a pretext and got rid of agression with punk, rid of religious uncertainties with Bach, rid of unattainable girls with the Undertones, and rid of Atlas-feelings with Joy Division. Man, those years were tough! ;D

Btw, Malcolm did the Vogue earlier than Madonna, but Madonna was prettier. :P

Good riddance. The guy was a scammer and a cheat, but i guess he finally found something he could not rig.

I will revere him forever for giving me Bow Wow Wow

although since he originally wanted Boy George singing lead instead of Annabella maybe I should not give him quite so much praise  ;D

Sarge
the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Great title  ;D Yes, that was to have been the original cover of their first LP but it wasn't used then in the U.S. or UK because of Annabella's age. Years later, though, when the CD came out, it was used everywhere, I think. I also have a 1982 EP called "Last of the Mohicans" with that cover (four songs on a 12 inch record).

Malcolm and the group were twenty years ahead of their time: they advocated "downloading" music onto cassettes. Their first single was actually a cassette called C30 C60 C90 Go! which had a blank B side to be used for illegal recording  ;D

Thank Sarge, it all comes back. ;)
In the 'naughty' Netherlands the original cover did not bring up any problem, as far as I remember.
And yes, already in those days I used the library to get albums and make a (MC) copy of it. Regarding Bow Wow Wow, I knew they wouldn't have any problems with that.
Because, if Annabella would have had problems with that, I never would have dared to make an illegal copy. She didn't look like the girl you wanted to quarrel or fight with! ;D
(Especially not with Malcolm in the background shouting and cheering for her!)

Could, and can still, play the Duck Rock album endlessly -- esp. Living on the Road in Soweto.

"All the men shall boogie and bark,
Never be afraid of the Dark."

Yes, though far from a masterpiece ;), I liked Soweto, too, and that dance-and-gymnastics clip with Malcolm dressed as some nutty dr. Livingstone, I presume.
