I guess I should introduce myself.

I'm from Brisbane, Australia  and I've been listening to classical music since about age 25.  I pretty mush like most genres across most periods except I've never come  to terms with opera. Whilst I do like much of the music within opera,  as a whole it doesn't gel for me.  I've been playing clarinet since age 30 with formal training (mid life crisis) and this has given me a much greater understanding and love of music.

Hi nfi42, and welcome.  Not to worry about deleting opera from the mix for the moment; it's not as if there isn't plenty of other repertoire to explore!

I have dipped my toe into the opera pool but my toe has always come out cold.   In the last 20 years or so I've been to see live opera every couple of years.


Not to worry, there is a vast array of music to explore. This place does look nice and cosy and thanks all for your welcome.

Hello and Welcome to the GMG Forum!  I don't DIG Opera either although as a youngster I was DRAGGED by my father to opera in Toledo, Ohio (maybe the reason for my dislike?) - but as you can see from my number of posts and the fact that I own nearly 3K classical music discs (nearly nothing related to opera), there is PLENTY of other music to explore; so not a concern - just tell us what you like, post in appropiate threads, and I'm sure that you will find you path here quickly - enjoy -
