Good choice. With La Boheme, you know the score already.  :D

Still half an hour to go, but France suck big time. Well, they lost to China, an atrociously bad team, barely a week ago. Guess that wasn't a fluke after all.

Loved seeing Henri, of all people, claiming a handball. The cheek of it! Especially as it wasn't one.... (Referees are doing well so far, aren't they....?)

oh the irony  ;D

edit : yes, quite impressed with the consistancy of the ref in that game. good control.

What a boring game! France had about 10 not-so-good years after Platini retired, and I think the same will be the case after Zidane. They seem to need a grand playmaker, and cannot rely on defense and counterattack like Italy.

Almost as ironic as Maradona calling for 'fair play'.  ... "Let there really be fair play, let the referees understand what the words fair play mean," said the Argentina coach ...

Yes, I was going to mention that, but I assumed the GMG software had some kind of filter that wouldn't allow that much iony in a single post....

Shocking, isn't it!  :D

the South Korea/Greece match was fun to watch. South Korea keeps sticking in my mind for making impressive sporting performances - I recall a great rugby world cup match vs a Polynesian team with a nailbiting conclusion a few years back. Go team! ;D

Greece barely showed up and South Korea truly played as a team.  The better team definitely won.  Getting ready for the next match.  A rare rainy day here in Colorado, so will be able to see the rest of the matches today.

Hoping for a 1950 repeat on this side of the pond.

Now where's that rabbit's foot..... ;D

*actually would not mind seeing England win it all after the US and Mexico* :)

OK my friends from England.  If the US wins I write you each a postcard letting you know the greatness of your team.  If the US wins, you do the same for me.  Who's in?

Nigeria/Argentina

I must admit that I was quite surprised by Nigeria's visible satisfaction of losing for a small margin instead of seeking at least a tie with an Argentina that played clearly better but missed some very clear opportunities. Anyway, it was a pleasure to see Messi fitting better in the Argentine tactics than in past matches; some of his plays were as effective as technically impressive.

I was impressed by the skill of the Argentinian attack.  Even though they thoroughly outplayed Nigeria, the Nigerians had several opportunities to tie the game.  The Nigerian goal keeper made some great saves, otherwise it easily could have been 4 or 5-0 Argentina.

USA vs England coming up, should be an exciting match!  :)

Vnessa gets excited about every match and insists that she'd watch every match. She asked me to buy some Dorittos and drinks, etc. but she has slept through every match so far, except the beginning of the early matches (before bedtime). I think I will be watching the next one by myself as well.

I am going for USA on this one.

Still? That was rather nice, that Gerard goal......

Be brave, lad. Stiff upper and all that. We still have 60+ minutes to go. Even if they broke our goalie's arm all wouldn't be lost... wait, WTF?  :'(
