Introducing myself

I've been reading GMG with great interest and wanted to introduce myself.  I'm a lifelong classical music fan, studied music in postsecondary, played the piano (past tense only because I have two young children and... you know how that goes - but was practicing actively until a couple of years ago).

I broadly like almost all composers (although I dislike individual pieces, which has already embroiled me in controversy here... heh) and tend to have a programmatic approach to listening.  A couple of years ago, I spent a lot of time listening to early romantic music in depth.  Right now, creeping through the 1780s and 1790s (the most incredible decade of musicmaking), and trying to remedy my deficient knowledge of opera with assigned listening.  Anyway, my personality responds well to having a plan.

I'm also interested in audio equipment.  I have a nice set up, with planar speakers and high end components, and plan on spending several $$$k in the next 12 months to really upgrade it further.  You'll notice that I spend a lot of time commenting about recording sonics, trying to fill a bit of a gap in what is an extraordinarily knowledgeable forum base.

I look forward to discussing topics with you guys.  Also, I hate you guys because my amazon to buy cart has ballooned since reading GMG.  So STOP recommending great recordings, d*** it.  Be well.

Heh, heh!  A belated welcome.  We all know deep down you just love the Brahms' string quartets, and think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread!  ;)

Cheers!  :)

Disliking any piece cannot be argued with, of course.

Cosmic!

;D

As you can see, GMG has a delightful assortment of denizens.  Welcome, and enjoy yourself.  (Can't help you with the flood of recommendations, though...)
