Still my "favorite" Stravinsky works tend to be later ones but no matter how hard I try, I keep bumping into Le Sacre in real life, so I guess I gotta embrace one of my first loves

I think Le Sacre in many ways shares similarities with Stockhausen's Gruppen in it's seemingly endless, inexhaustible things you can learn and interpret from it. I guess it has it's popular position for a reason (same with Gruppen, even though it's less performed for practical reasons).

I can't say I know The Flood too well. I might have heard once many years ago, but given how awesome Les Noces is and how I've really warmed to that work, I don't really see myself letting go of that strong opinion I now hold of this work.

I thought you have the DG Stravinsky box? The Knussen recording of The Flood is in there.

Yep, I've got the DG set and Knussen's is in there, but I have yet to hear it. So much music, so little time.

Artist was Jacques Emile Blanche, painted in 1915.

Just saw Le Sacre live and I'm really amazed how happy (and taken back) it made me despite hearing it millions of times before 

Even though I think I love The Flood and Requiem Canticles more (both on a personal level and as a composer), The Rite Of Spring always will have a special place to me (and many others too). It's a work that, to be honest....I can't not say "wow" and be taken back every time I hear it.

Plus, because of it's influence, certain movements always remind me of certain other (later) composers that are also a huge part of my life.
e.g. The introduction to the second movement (rehearsal mark 83) always brings me back to Messiaen.
The sacrificial dance sometimes gets me in the mood for Xenakis (who used to be my most played composer). etc.
