Dumping Firefox

I am about fed up with Firefox.  It has acquired all of the negative features that led me to avoid IE.  My main objection, it's tendency to hog up enormous amounts of memory when displaying even a simple web page.  I've found Chrome to be much more responsive and efficient and will be using it by default despite some quirks (like the fact that it does not give you an easy way to open an html file on your hard drive).

How long will it take for Chrome to acquire all the negative features of IE, I wonder? Does anyone remember Netscape?  ;)

I never had a high regard for Netscape, which added extraneous, poorly conceived extensions to html.  Mosaic was the more elegant product.  But Mosaic was beaten by Netscape in the market place and was taken over by Microsoft and became IE.

But I think the problem is that well designed products with a narrowly designed market tend to develop ambitions of wider acceptance, which causes them bloat and to serve the original constituency poorly.

Well said.

You mean Ctrl + O isn't easy?  ???

Yeah, the first time I tried out Chrome, I was skeptical. I was pretty much in love with Firefox.  :P However, once I discovered that Chrome can do nearly anything Firefox can, but at the same time be so much more lightweight, it was obvious that I only need Chrome now. The only thing I miss Firefox for is some of the features in the rikaichan add-on (names & places dictionary), but that's not too much to miss since the main thing has it's own version on Chrome (called rikaikun). Plus, it has themes...  8)

I love Firefox but recently it won't load & I get this.

QuoteA script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: chrome://opanda_iexif/content/jslib/io/filesystem.js:582

I've followed the instructions to fix it but it keeps happening.

Any suggestions anyone?

I've used Firefox, IE, Chrome, and Opera. Since I got my new computer a few months ago I've only used Chrome.

That works nicely, but it is not one of the options on the Chrome menu, and I had no idea it existed.

Also, what is the analog of "bookmarks" of "favorites" in chrome?

I think that's one thing they're going to have to include in the menu in the future.  :D

You mean the shortcut key to display/hide the bookmarks? (or  something else)

I'm pretty sure it's Ctrl + B, though I'm not at my computer, so I can't really double check.

Of course, I use Chrome on the Droid . . . but your complaint against Firefox resonates here, and I've now downloaded Chrome on the home desktop. Much better!

Chrome is spyware. No way i'm gonna let Google monitor my activities. IE is still crap, no matter what they do. Guess i'm gonna stick to firefox, though the browser definitely lost some of its luster.

What basis is there for that claim?

Paranoia in and of itself is sufficient basis... ::)

Well, in some sense every browser is spyware.  I don't see that Chrome is any different.

Let's say I go to L.L. Bean's web site and look at hiking boots.  The next day I go to the New York Times web site and, as if by coincidence, all the ads are for hiking boots.  Is that creepy or what?

Yow!

It isn't Chrome which has made my desktop suddenly slow?

(Suddenly slow is a nice oxymoron, isn't it?)
