Brian

Today's the day!

At about 6:50pm Texas time I'll be hopping on the first of two planes taking me to London, England, where I will be living for about 12 months. I'm going to be a student in the English department at Queen Mary, University of London, a school whose most famous alumnus actually graduated from its medical program: Mr Graham Chapman. My other ambitions include seeing every major London orchestra (I was originally hoping to see two Charles Mackerras concerts, one with OAE and one with Philharmonia...  :'( ), walking around the city as much as possible, not getting too jaded about the weather, and meeting Bill Bryson.

So, anyhow, this is goodbye for a while. I won't be stopping by the forum for a week or so, and when I do it will be from the other side of the Atlantic. Don't let it get too crazy in my absence. Adios!

Or should I say ... cheerio!

Have a terrific time, Brian!  (As if there will be any doubt.  ;D)

You are going to have a year packed with great music, I'm sure, and equally great theater as well, should you be inclined.

Safe travels, and wishing you a smooth transition.

The transition should be easy. London is so much like Waco, only somewhat bigger in size.

Enjoy! I plan to go to London and live for a year so so in 2028 or so!
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

What are you on about....you are not going, you are coming!

I hope the weather is kind to you...and to the rest of us. Lots to see and do.

Dr Johnson.....He who is tired of London is tired of life. And that was before they opened Selfridges on Oxford St.

Brian will undoubtedly spend the first several months of his London stay learning English so he can speak with the natives.

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

It's not every day you see someone so excited to be going to Ontario! ; )

Bear in mind that the weather has as many positives as negatives: wardrobe upgrades. It's very easy to look good in many layers, it is exceedingly difficult to look good in tshirt and shorts :P
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

Bon voyage! While you're reveling in the London arts, don't forget the theatre.

Hello Brian:D

You will undoubtedly have a wonderful experience in London (and in the British Isles - explore!) - I've been there a number of times and always have enjoyed my visits!

And yes, I've been to Texas many times - you will DEFINITELY notice a difference -  ;)  ;D

Have a great time and please try to visit the GMG forum as often as possible - we all enjoy your contributions -  :)

Three things you need to know, Brian:

1. Don't go to Baker Street expecting to meet Sherlock Holmes. He's always out.
2. Don't miss taking tea and scones at the Palace with the Queen (Thursdays, at 4).
3. Bring seven differently coloured umbrellas, one for each day of the week. They won't keep you any drier, but it makes the streets look brighter.

When you land, I shall be waving at you, and cheering, from 300 miles further north.

300 miles ain't hardly no distance, shucks, to a Texan!

No. A Texan might say it was close, but it still seems quite a long way off to me.

(Obligatory Americans know squat about geography joke.)

Norway, I thought? . . .
You'll be asking how many fjords we have in our garden, next.
