I think of Dark Angels by Crumb as being very ritualistic and also quite primitive with its chanting and stuff.

Do a search here and on the old forum, you'll see that he did get mentioned. OK, occasionally. Along with Narbutaite (his student) he definitely is one of the most famous Lithuanian composers alive today, or probably even the most famous. I can't imagine anyone (even vaguely) interested in contemporary music from Eastern Europe not being aware of him. Seriously.
