I am confused as to just what this thread is about.

How do you cope with anti-Christian art?
I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian. I would like to answer your question but I can't as long as you don't provide a working definition of "anti-Christian art", especially in the context of classical music.

I know plenty of anti-Christian philosophy and literature, but of anti-Christian art/classical music I can think of not one single instance, unless by "anti-" you simply mean "non-", as in music composed or performed by non-Christians, with which I find no fault whatsoever.

Please elaborate.

To quote 10cc: "Art for art's sake, money for God's sake".

A pertinent observation by Graham Gouldman.

This thread is pretty useless actually.

IMO.

Well, if the OP finds it of use . . . .

MN Dave

OP should play it safe and not listen to music. Ear plugs are cheap.

I cope with music I don't like by not listening to it. ::)

Last I checked, this was a perfectly acceptable right.

I listen to Deicide, and I think they are marvelously entertaining:

I look at all of the PR that bands (and composers) of that ilk get as being a fundamental part of the music business. Any publicity is good publicity, scare people and they'll pay for your music.

What I don't think this thread was meant to be about was about : the music INDUSTRY.

Everyone is sharing such, such,...selfish opinions, (IMHO, haha), like "as long as I like it."

Since it's the Christian Faith we are talking about, shouldn't we find out what the Bible says about what God (LJC) thinks about artists' selfish ambitions to please please please themselves (and make money)?

Isn't there a word for people who are in it for the money?

AndyD. says Decide( ::)) is "marvelously entertaining". Not profound, or worthy, or musical, or teachers, or redeeming, or such, no, but "entertaining". May I use the word "escapist", which would infer popcorn?

Hey, I find snuff films entertaining, hey, I'm not hurting anyone,...they're already dead, right? Doesn't make me bad just because I get a thrill out of it, right? It's on YouTube,...hey, it's just entertainment,...it's probably not evel real.

Art in the 21 century = MONEY = mercantilism (Canaanites)

I have always been interested in the Battle for Music. I do seem to believe that people here do not believe in the correlation between sound and color, for instance (wasn't there a thread?). Hey, if there's a color that "waves" at a certain "frequency",...well, I'm not going to convince anyone.

However, all the occultists agree with me (Blavatsky, Pike, Crowley).

Obviously, Scriabin agrees with me.

I mean, just because you CAN sacrifice swine on the altar of the Holy of Holies, does that mean that you need to be the kind of prick to do it?

Dear Christians,

Your Bible tells you that Lucifer (in the guise of the king of Tyre) was made with

"the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created" Eze 28:13 AV

meaning, Lucifer was the music minister in Heaven before his fall. You Christians all know this, right? It's basic Sunday School, right?

Yea, I didn't think so.

Again, speaking of the fallen Lucifer

"Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols."

What is this noise, this pomp? It is the Celebration of Self, embodied, so obviously in this Modern Culture. Me, me, me.

My choices.

My decisions.

I choose what's right/wrong, good/bad.

Is that the way a blood soaked believer in the resurrected Christ thinks? Did Christ die for you so you can listen to DeathMetal? or Scriabin?

not judging,...just askin',...with a smilee face ;D

I think what your'alls answer is gonna be is, F*** you God of the Bible, I'll do what I want. Not accusing, just hypothesizin'. Hope I'm wrong, Christian (whomever you might happen to be reading this).

In Ezekiel 8:14, he is brought in a vision to "women weeping for Tammuz" (the reincanated Nimrod,...look it up). I wonder if there was beautiful music accompanying this weeping (Bulgarian voices beautiful?),...I wonder if music celebrating the death of god would be just as beautiful.

I wonder how God feels about that.

Ask: Do I care what God thinks? Obviously, only True Believers need answer.

I'll put it this way, Believer? Do you believe that "trumpets" brought down the walls of Jericho? If so, then there must be some inherent power in,...I don't know, what do you call it,...music?

Does not music have the power to destroy, or build up?

(Yes, I change subjects every time I skip 4-6 lines)

And I get the feeling someone will call me that special word if I mention who controls the music biz, but seriously folks, the music BIZ is cree-pee!! And the country music biz is,...oops, I can't say!!,...

and the so-called Christian Music Biz is most certainly the most corrupt of all. Anyone here have experience? I have a very little, and I won't go one step farther.

Do you still listen to Amy Grant? Character doesn't matter?

It's funny how, at certain venues espousing certain values, people get trampled to death.

The only "Christian Music" I can think of at the moment is a shofar in yo face!   B-wwwwaaaahhhhHH!!!! Howz dat fo' music??

Hey, I'm just gellin,...hope nobody gets their panties in a bunch. ;D 8)

Maybe that's because he reads from ancient texts, written deep within his heart.

Actually, it scares me to realize that I have no problem understanding him, nor any major argument against what he says, usually. Except for Haydn String Quartets, of course... :)

He is into them Andy.  I think he's written two tomes of analysis on them.  :D
