Leon

Hi - I just joined this week but have been reading the forum for a while as a guest.

I have been listening to classical music for most of my life and prefer music from the period of Haydn, Mozart & Beethoven (I have really enjoyed reading Gurn's Classical Corner!).  However, I do listen to music from all centuries.  I guess my least favorite style is what I'd call the high Romantic style, the big orchestral works of the last half of the 19th century.  I tend to like chamber music best with some of my favorite works the Haydn piano trios of which I have enjoyed the Van Swieten period instrument recordings.

Anyway, that's a bit about me -

Have you listened to "romantic" chamber music?  In particular, I'm thinking of works of Brahms which I find have a classical sense of proportion and form, but with a richness of harmony and expression that is characteristic of the 19th century.

Welcome aboard, Leon!

Even though I don't like your composers of choice, you can't help not to like what you like! Nothing wrong with that. Diversity is what makes this world go round and round.

I'm mainly a 20th Century listener myself. I do enjoy much of the Romantic period though. Anyway, like I said, diversity is a good thing, especially on a forum.

I look forward to reading more of your posts.

Yes, Brahms' chamber works are some of my favorites - especially the late clarinet works.

Welcome! I love those big romantic late 19th century pieces - but don't hold it against me! I like the classical stuff too, so I suppose all is not lost.  :P

Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Leon!  My man!  :)

Welcome aboard, matey! Don't listen to those guys with their Romantic stuff. ::)  Good to see anyway that you have started in the right place. A very, very gradual and tentative branching out from that base is good though... I bracket it nicely with Vivaldi on the one side and Tchaikovsky and Dvorak on the other.  ;)

Cheers,

Welcome aboard, Leon!

For most of the past 20 years, I've been more into post Beethoven composers (especially C20th), but I love seeing the music of the three you mention - Mozart, Haydn & especially Beethoven - live in concert. & a thing that I have in common with you is that I also love chamber music...

Hello Leon - and yet another welcome to the GMG Forum!  :)

Like Gurn, my favorite music period is pretty much what is being covered in the Classical Corner thread of which I have been a frequent poster - amazing for me 'how many' composers have emerged from the 'woodwork' in this era - new discoveries all of the time!  Dave  ;D
