Having this as my desktop and listening to Mahler 7 while not having a care for anything is the only way I've known how to enjoy the morning.

Found a cool photo of Hilary Hahn. At the risk of making both hornteacher and Mrs Rock jealous (she's usually on my desktop), I'm using it as my current wallpaper. Click to enlarge:

Mahler, you ought to go see it.

That's a lot of make-up, or you need to take a Swiffer to your monitor.   0:)

Wow, that's a glorious desktop wallpaper, but it really especially works because you have so few desktop icons/widgets. I've got about 6 icons plus a clock and post-it note pad, so I can't do anything as clean as that.

If I could I'd remove the recycle bin too :'(

     Hide the icons.

You can either load them all onto the taskbar and/or right click the desktop > view >uncheck show icons and then click show icons when you want them. I do a little of both, with frequently used icons on the taskbar and either hide or show them depending on the alignment of the planets.

If you did that, I'd steal your computer.
Or do the same to mine and ask for your background jpg.
Although I still really dig this organ photo I took.

Oops! I thought I'd posted my desktop already, but I hadn't.

My issue is that I use the desktop regularly on a temporary basis, and switching between hide would hamper moving stuff around - I use my desktop like a coffee table: I put my cup there, and when I have finished I remove it. Ideally the recycle bin should be relegated to the start menu, like they did with My Computer (why do one and not the other? :-\), and leave the desktop as a big open thing to play around with.

@Brian: the photo is really neat, it's rare to get such a lucky reflection from a window on something that you actually want to photograph (vs. say, some random wall or column).

You're not getting away that easily.

Pin it to the Explorer taskbar folder, and delete it from the desktop.

     Oohh! Oohh!

I think this is what you want.

Drag it there and then get rid of it on the desktop personalization > change desktop icons. Now it's always there and always isn't.

Oh, I forgot that you could remove it via personalise/properties. Danke, I put it at the top of the start menu. It's kind of frustrating that MS are still such control freaks that they won't allow you to pick what you have on right side of the menu (where I would like such an essential thing). I can understand idiot-proof modes, but at least give people who know what they want the means to do it, even if it involves consulting "experts" on tech forums.

Edit: haha omg you got there first.

Edit2: a flaw in the plan: you can't right click to empty, you must open, then right click the window for the menu. Kind of balls, but I'll live with it. If this was allowed on the right side of the menu I'm sure it'd let you right click it, grr.
