Hello everyone,

I am new to this board and thought I would introduce myself.

My name is Tyran Grillo. I am an academic and a writer who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in East Asian Literature at Cornell University. I have also been obsessed with classical music since my early teens, when, in a fit of boredom one day, I rummaged through my father's collection of old Nonesuch and Musical Heritage Society LPs and had my ears (and my heart) opened to the wonders of the Baroque masters. Having struggled with an instrument or two over the years, I have settled on singing as my forte, and do it humbly but with passion.

My latest project is a blog dedicated to the enterprising ECM Records, for which I plan to review every release on both ECM (Jazz) and ECM New Series (Classical). Please take a look, should you feel so inclined:

http://ecmreviews.com/

I also do some "freelance" composing of choral music when the mood strikes me, some of which you may hear here:

Having no professional choir at my disposal, I am forced to fulfill all the parts myself, so do be kind  ;)

Looking forward to chatting, sharing, and enriching my listening life with all of you!

Hello, Tyran, and welcome!  I probably had some of those same old Nonesuch recordings long ago...and am sure I have many of the ECM recordings you are currently listening to.

Anyway, have a good time--lots of fun people here.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy yourself here. As a choral writer, do pop over to the Vocal room and give us the benefit of your opinions.

All kinds of aural development await you here!

We have many suggestions, which will rapidly deplete your savings account and cause you to be tempted to purloin your mother's purse to purchase another CD by e.g. another rising Scandinavian genius.

Have fun!

For choral composing, check out the Karl Henning oeuvre, e.g. Nuhro.
