How could you have known that Mendelssohn is the easiest composer in the world for me to resist? : )

Beware! You run the risk that Saul reads this, and your thread shall verily become filled with spam. :D

Now, you see, that's what I was saying . . . but all my buds here are arguing that I am not yet in any position of quitting . . . .

There's never a good time to quit, so now is as good as any. Plus, how many days of 'abstinence' do you have? Five? Just keep those five days in mind. You already know how to go 24hrs without a purchase. There's nothing more anyone can teach you.

Be well, John Connor.

And the rest of you just want to see Karl relapse for your own sick enjoyment! >:D uhuhuh ::)

So, to follow your reference, are we to assume that, for the moment, Karl is still the master of his domain?

Come on and buy.  It's a natural function... nothing to be ashamed about.

Who is with you....you must be joking. Within 12 hours of the New Year I ordered two Moeran discs, they arrived today. Then on the 2nd, nothing daunted, Handel Arias sung by Bejun Mehta.....so there.

Mike

Which Moeran discs Mike? I too have ordered a Moeran CD since the New Year (Handley's recording of the Symphony - which I gave away and now MUST have again) - I too have fallen to the Dark Side  >:D. My wife recently asked to see my last years bank statements to work out what we had been paying for our utilities, for tax purposes. When she saw the number of payments to Amazon she just said 'I think that you have an addiction' and returned the statements to me. True, but I guess one can have worse addictions (I keep telling myself that anyway and that it is all under control) - now, back to the Amazon site :D

I have the disc with both the violin concerto and the cello concerto. It also includes Lonely Waters and Wythorne's Shadow. I have really enjoyed the two concertos.

The other disc contains Symphony in G minor, Rhapsody for piano and orchestra and Overture for a Masque. I have not heard this disc yet, but bought it because I was so taken with the Symphony when I heard it some time ago.

Both are Chandos discs.

I wasted time: and time wasted me.

It's very easy to resist CDCDCD. Just be like me, and have a job which hardly pays you. Problem solved.

The new erato

19 discs. 42 £.

Karl; you are permitted to break down now.

I'm keeping to my baby steps: I won't buy any new music before noon

OT - the Cello Concerto is a masterpiece IMHO - the climax of the finale I find very moving (more so in the Peers Coetmore/Boult recording on Lyrita) - but the Chandos is very fine too - a great disc.

Thanks to you I've been on a deep Moeran binge for the last three hours.  Not buying, but listening.  Three different versions of the symphony.  Cello concerto up next.

Although I'm a big collector of 20th Century symphonies, I can honestly say I love the Moeran most of all.  (RE: The Soul-link thread.)

Hmmmm.  I'm sure I have a recording of that piece but I don't remember listening to it.   ???

Guys, I think we have a separate thread for Morean. Now, get back to putting the pressure on Karl. >:D

I'm cooler than a cucumber.  (Still no one else on board?)

Sorry, Karl, but the opposite's happening for me. Since I only purchased (if memory serves) 4 CDs between 1 Oct - 25 Dec, I am going on a minor spree. Amazon gift cards for Christmas bankrolled a lot of purchases, but it was my own money I spent when a Harmonia Mundi shop ambushed me in the tiny medieval streets of Girona, Spain. And, despite telling myself "you only bought stuff out of surprise," I'm planning to go back and get some more.

And I have indeed accounted for the Abeille Musique annual sale. Anyone know when it starts? [EDIT: My French is bad, but the site seems to say 12 Jan?]
When it ends, I will gladly abstain from CD purchases, therefore joining the CDCDCD Enders, from, say, February to June.

It's going to be hard to put pressure on him until the Richard Clayderman and John Tesh Box sets come out.  At that point, all bets are off!

Karl,

Since I trust your taste so much, I am authorizing you to order any CD that you think is a must-have on my behalf. I have a favor to ask of you. Can you keep them for me (no storage charges, please) for the time being and, if I do not go to Boston later this year, maybe keep them indefinitely?

Just a thought. You kind consideration much appreciated!
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

Success!

And now . . . I won't buy any new music (even for Paul) before six o'clock . . . .
