Guido

Just discovered this wonderful singer via clips of Armida on youtube and through a recording I own of Donizetti's Rosmonda d'Inghilterra. Timbrally she reminds me a lot of Maria Callas, and she certainly seems to be in her line of singing - lots of bel canto and a dramatic intensity to everything she does.

Any other fans here?

(I see that other posters have also commented on the Callas similarity I hear, and just as many have denied this similarity!)

I don't possess any recordings but I was a fan during the brief time that she appeared with the Frankfurt Opera in the 80s - I remember a superb Tosca and Manon Lescaut, but sadly I think i missed her Traviata. When I get home I will check my old programmes...She was less grand than Callas, though the timbre reminded one of that great singer; her general style of singing reminded me rather more of Olivero.
The Violin's Obstinacy

It needs to return to this one note,
not a tune and not a key
but the sound of self it must depart from,
a journey lengthily to go
in a vein it knows will cripple it.
