Yesterday, my wife and I went on our yearly pilgrimage to H&R Block. Joanne, The woman who always does our taxes, suddenly reminded me of Susan Sarandan, one of my favorite actresses. I told her that she looked just like that movie star. Joanne surprised me when she said that she had never heard of her. So I wrote down her name and suggested that Joanne check the internet for some of her photographs.

The first time that I watched TV after meeting with Joanne was today, while babysitting my six grandkids. The oldest one put on a DVD of a dreadfully campy family movie called "Speed Racer." Within a minute, I saw an actress who looked just like my tax preparer. It was Susan Sarandan. I did a double take: what a coincidence, eh?

How often has this kind of weird timing happened to you?

My best friend and I both had meetings -- different meetings -- in San Francisco at the same time, so we flew out early and went birding in the San Joaquin Valley the weekend before our meetings. We were looking particularly for Sandhill Cranes, but while we were driving through open land in the middle of the afternoon, conversation turned to owls. One of us said to the other something along the lines of how cool it would be to see an owl.

Not five minutes later, a Barn Owl nearly flew into the open window on the passenger side of the car, then swooped up and landed on a nearby fence post. It looked almost as if he were posing for us as he perched there.

Serendipity Strikes Again.
Yesterday, for over a half hour, three of my grandkids couldn't agree on what Netflix movie to watch from my Instant Queue. We had scrolled through hundreds of children's/family  movies until we hit the last page under Family Comedies. With much fanfare, I decided that the last item on the list was the one we were going to see, a Disney production called "Good Luck Charlie." My youngest grandchild, four-year-old Mia, loves to identify with babies. The moment that she saw the baby Charlie, she said, "That's me." Nothing new there. But astonishingly as the credits soon indicated, the first name of that baby who played Charlie was Mia. How about that!
