...according to unnamed sources.  Obama to make a statement momentarily.

NYTimes confirms it. I'm waiting for the feed from the White House on their site.

It's about time. How long did it take?

Dead for years, back in Tora Bora. This is being trotted out on Sunday May 1, 2011 for reasons that should soon become clear.

The CNN host just made a swift recovery:

"There was a 25 million dollar reward for his capture or tor, er, death"

Well, it isn't always the case that someone getting killed is "good news".  In this case, it is terrific news!

Interesting and significant that bin Laden was not found in the "tribal region" of Pakistan, near Afghanistan, but in the heart of the country, near the capital.

They've managed to take out the figurehead of Al Qaeda, but now what? No doubt this will make little difference to what's going on in the Middle East. Bin Laden had been ill for years, he was nothing more than a symbol, albeit a big one...

Bin Laden is dead, but the Arab uprising showed that Bin Ladenism was already dead, killed by years of relentless pressure which forced Al Qaeda to hide in shitholes that they couldn't even govern themselves, welfare cases beholden to tribal warlords. Not a single government on earth, not China or Venezuela or Russia or Sudan wanted anything to do with them. In the Muslim world a new generation decided to follow a different path.

Critics have often said that you can't impose democracy by force of arms, and while history suggests that this is strictly false, it's usually the case that successful democratic government must result from people choosing democracy and then learning what it means to practice it beyond having elections. For the first time I see signs that a broad cross section of people in the Middle East have arrived at the conclusion that something beyond elections must take place, that the process of learning how self-government works is being taken seriously. Protesters are talking about constitutional conventions, limited government, even protection of minorities and womens rights. Now the real struggle comes as good intentions are translated into the means to realize them. I expect most of these efforts to fail, but even a single success will have huge consequences.

Spare a moment's thought for Sohaib Athar, an Abbottabad resident and Twitter user who, in his own words:

QuoteUh oh, now I'm the guy who liveblogged the Osama raid without knowing it.

It all started when he stayed up too late and tweeted,

QuoteHelicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event).
QuoteA huge window shaking bang here in Abbottabad Cantt. I hope its not the start of something nasty :-S
QuoteSince taliban (probably) don't have helicpoters, and since they're saying it was not "ours", so must be a complicated situation #abbottabad

A bit convenient that they would come out with this after murdering Gaddafi's grandchildren.

I just see this as a total load of bullshit! OBL was buried at Sea?? Why?

NO BODY - NO PROOF!

I do not believe this has happened.
