I am a retired engineer who has enjoyed listening to classical music for 50 years.  I sang in choirs for most of those years and as part of our warm ups we vocalized the do-re-mi-fa or some times we would vary it by singing the numbers 1-2-3-4, and because of that I was able to vocalize Pi as 3-1-4-2 and heard the opening notes of Elgar's Enigma Variations.  Although I was immediately convinced that Pi fit the enigma clues Elgar gave in 1899, I continued researching for a year or two and found much evidence to support Pi as the enigma.  I am currently receiving lots of feedback from members.  This is by far the most active site and most constructive site I have found.

Welcome Nimrod.  I live in OK, and we have a few Texans on board as well. :)

Once-and-future Texan reporting in; I lived in Houston for three years and my family are in the Hill Country, though I now find myself in merry olde England!

Welcome, Nimrod - hope you enjoy this board as much as we do. :)

And hello from NYC, nimrod. An ex-Texan here (although some say there's no such thing  ;D), and a fan of Elgar's music, too--among many other composers.

Welcome, Nimrod! You certainly have stirred things up already. I love Elgar and many another composer (see avatar for one of my favourites...)  Greetings from The Netherlands!

Glad to see some Texans about. I am from Nacogdoches in Deep East Texas. We pretty well have the state covered (and probably represent a good deal of the population of Classical lovers. :) ).

Oh we love pie with the Enigma. Yum!  :P

Love Elgar too, though I cannot say I ever really stopped to wonder why they were called Enigma. I just liked the music! Elgar is a popular composer here, so I am sure you will find much to discuss (and on other topics too). Enjoy!
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Welcome to the forum and greetings from Vienna, Austria.  8)

I lived in Texas for 6 months back in 1978 when I was in the Air Force. First in San Antonio for basic training, followed by my technical at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls. Whereabouts are you in the Lone Star state?

Hi.  I live in Lubbock, close to Texas Tech University where my two sons and daughter-in-law are employed.  My grandson even attended the University for a while (pre-school) Ha Ha.

My parents live in San Angelo.  Well that's nearby by Texas standards (though still kind of far away)! :D

Welcome, Nimrod.  I'm hoping your musical interests are more broad than the presence of Pi in Elgar's Enigma Variations.   ;D

Thanks for the "warm" welcome.  Tonight I am going to the Lubbock Symphony to hear Elgar's Cello Concerto and Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra.  I have been looking forward to hearing our guest cellist, Gary Hoffman.  Should be great.  Hope you have a pleasant evening too.
