I'm starting to think I'm in the wrong forum here.  Several days ago I started a thread on Halfdan Cleve and posted a link to an upload of 4 of his 5 piano concertos which are not available commercially.   (link is at the top of this thread as well).

So far, there hasn't been one response on that thread.  So I'm kind of coming to the conclusion that folks here aren't much interested in discussing obscure and forgotten composers.   :-[  Which is my area of most interest since I got tired of the workhorses about 50 years ago.

My impression is that here are plenty members around that have similar interests. "Several days ago" turns out to be one day ago, at least according to my calendar... And the thread has been read 23 times during that time - which isn't really all that bad. Keep in mind not everybody has the time to visit on a daily basis.

Anyway, I'm glad you have such high expectations of us. :) And welcome. :)

Do not care for atonal, 12 tone and other forms of musical noise.

Give me Schoenberg over Mozart anytime....!  ;D

But welcome to the forum, you will find plenty of interesting stuff to read, discuss and argue (if you're so inclined)  ;)

Give it some time. You're asking a lot. Asking us to invest time in a composer almost no one has heard of; asking us to download a large file; asking us to listen to four piano concertos. All that will take time and energy. Don't expect an immediate response. It would help, I think, if you described the music; told us why you think he's worth hearing.

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Or a short mp3 excerpt would be helpful as well  ;)

You also dismissed as "musical noise" most of the music many of us here love, which was in inauspicious start.   :'(

No, there's actually quite a lot of that in the air here at any given time.

Oldfezzi should post a clip on that game thread, that would get people interested! :D

Yeah a bit too much cacklin' now and then. :D

It's the lesser known ones that are usually more interesting to discuss: so much has already been said about Beethoven, Wagner, Mahler, et al

Sorry your thread hasn't received much notice. It happens to the best of us (well, certainly to me). The thing is, everyone is in the midst of their own musical journey, and their interests may not coincide with yours, temporally speaking. But don't give up! Look at the Koechlin thread, which is going strong with a membership of one ;)

Don't give up so easily! I mean as the self-professed Koechlin fan around here, you shouldn't feel the way you do until you've walked a mile in my shoes or, in this case, my computer. Everybody here has their interests and are seeking some way to get that passion and joy out there for people to read whether they read it or not. The point is if you're passionate about this music, which I have no doubt that you are, then stick around. As much as I love Koechlin's music, I still listen to many different composers ranging from Ravel to Berg to Villa-Lobos to Ligeti. It's all a matter of finding some common interest with people and it's from here that a conversation could spark and go in a myriad of directions.

I'm a newbie here, haven't yet found the strength to read all of the posts.

Halfdan Cleve? That's a great name! One of my least regrets (but still a regret) is that I am not named Thorstein Olafson. Soon as I can tear myself away from spring cleaning I will check out your uploads.
