Such a brilliant work.

I don't understand this rule.

You may use the +3 and/or -2 option every other time you vote, not each and every time, in order not to heat things up too fast, too soon. In addition to showing likes and dislikes, you can be strategic with it (e.g. a combined use of the two might more easily create the 7 point difference that elevates a desired work to the list). Later on, of course, we can abolish this rule altogether and let all hell break loose.  >:D

That would be my intent as well, although, as I have a feeling it'll be a struggle to keep it on the list for long, I'll be giving it just enough to keep it afloat.

DavidW

Sorry Wanderer, I just don't like it that much.  For me it's easily a lesser work compared to the cello concerto and the violin concerto.  And then comparing to other piano concertos of that era also just not as interesting to me.  But there are other targets for spreading the hate around, I won't keep targeting Dvorak for now. >:D

The Prokofiev 2 and Rachmaninov PR don't need votes, they've already made the list (on display, second post).
By Ravel 1, do you mean the G major? The D major has made the list, too.
So, am I to put +3 to Prokofiev 1, +2 to Ravel G major and the Lalo straight to the list?

I don't understand the scoring system everyone seems to be taking for granted. I assume it's some sort of sports-related thing  ::)

Yes, Ravel 1 = G major. This matter of being able to weight your own votes is currently beyond me.

Well the point is that with enough votes a work gets promoted to the final list.  It's a way of voting up a list of favorite works, but it's been kind of turned into a game.  It started on Talk Classical, I stole the idea and adapted for the chamber thread, and Wanderer has adapted mine for this thread.  And each of us simplified some aspects, but also added some extra rules.

At first people complained that it was complicated, but buy now most seem to enjoy it and also have no problem keeping the different rules (for the two threads) separate.  Join in, it's fun. :)

Still confusled. How did Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 get a score of -4?

Now, seeing as my Tippett tip had already been fast-tracked, I wonder what else I could put there. The Ireland concerto (an adorable piece)...the Hugh Wood concerto (one of my favourite modern ones)...the Stevenson First Piano Concerto (the Busoni's little brother, a great work) but no, the choice is clear, for me, between - we need a contemporary score here, and the greatest works for piano and orchestra in the last 30 years or so are, IMO, Xenakis's Synaphai, Radulescu's Piano Concerto and Ligeti's Piano Concerto. The latter simply MUST be on the list somewhere. It's a dead-cert masterpiece.

As for voting - I've squandered my chances, this is only the second time I've done it, but never mind:
