Otto Singer and Liszt

I'm sure many are familiar with Liszt's piano transcriptions of the Beethoven symphonies. You'd think that one transcription by such an artist would be enough, but I've also come across another set by one Otto Singer. I've seen that Singer was in contact with Liszt through letters, and apparently was an "earnest and aggressive disciple of Liszt."

Why, then, would he feel the need to transcribe these over again? Does anyone have any familiarity with both works, and have any preference or thoughts?
