And who said Dutch was the closest language to English?

Dutch is close, but Frisian (in its different varities) is actually closer.
Also spoken in the Netherlands BTW, and next to Dutch an official language in the province of Friesland (Frisia).

Are you telling me, that you missed my point?

How can you think such a thing?

Let me also say that Saul's input would have been more valuable if he would have discussed the music he actually liked instead of going on tirades about music he didn't like.

Absolutely: and true for everyone else too, I might add. :)

Not the Frisian dialect but the Groninger dialect (the North of the Netherlands) is much closer to English :)
And yes I think that Frisian is a dialect.

And yes I think that Frisian is a dialect.

But linguists do not:

"There are three varieties of Frisian: West Frisian, Saterland Frisian, and North Frisian. Some linguists consider these three varieties, despite their mutual unintelligibility, to be dialects of one single Frisian language, whereas others consider them to be three separate languages, as do their speakers. "
When, a few months before his death, Rachmaninov lamented that he no longer had the "strength and fire" to compose, friends reminded him of the Symphonic Dances, so charged with fire and strength. "Yes," he admitted. "I don't know how that happened. That was probably my last flicker."

I still grieve the loss of Lethevich.

Is there anyone here who had contact with her after she left the site?

I wonder what's happened to Todd. I miss being insulted on the presidential election thread.

Oh dear, hasn't insulted anyone for 27 days. Must be at death's door.

André

Let's hope not. Not him nor anybody else, for that matter.

Sometimes I think of the *quiet* in my life if I would abstain from posting on a web site...  ???

Brian

I've talked to Todd before about his prolonged absences; he occasionally gets very busy with work and simply drops GMG for a month or two at a time when needed. A couple years ago he was absent for almost half a year and it was just a big work project.

BTW I will be on vacation for the next 10 days so nobody panic about me.
