You must have missed The Six's post. ;)

Publicity stunt? As if he doesn't have full exposure on GMG? O, dear!

I certainly did. Is it struck off the record now?

What is?

I generally view deleting accounts, especially when done by a prominent member, whether it's Karl or someone else, as a call for attention for whatever reason. That way, one's absence is immediately noted, unlike the case where the person goes quiet for a long time before that happens. Of course, there are exceptions to this: MNDave, for example -- I would be surprised if he doesn't delete his account once in a while. ;D

Right! So publicity stunt. I was worried something serious happened to him, but this I think is a bizarre joke, and had us all in the curtains. not nice:(

From my own experience, I know this isn't necessarily true. Not everything is so calculated with a view to the reception it will get on the site. I've deleted my account twice in the past - first the lukeottevanger account, then the sul G one - and neither time was it in any way a call for attention. Both times I simply wanted to cut myself off from GMG as much as possible, to put as much of a barrier up as I could. Once was GMG-related, I really wasn't enjoying things here at the time, and I wanted to put some space between myself and the site. I could have just left it, I suppose - but I couldn't, not really, I'd have felt the urge to return too strongly. So deregistering was the best course, I decided. It made returning that bit more difficult, and that was how I wanted it at the time. The other was real-life-related; there was no logical reason to exclude GMG from things, but I wasn't up to being logical back then. I was in such a terrible place and my mind was so messed up and even self-destructive that it seemed the right thing to do at the time. Shame - I liked the sul G moniker!

All right, a few times it's an unintentional call for attention. Even if Karl has desired to stay away for a while, he now has others wondering about (and perhaps contacting) him to find out what happened, thus bringing him closer.

You can change to it even now.

Great Stuff!  Was it The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck by Don Rosa?  Or one of the classic Carl Barks albums?

Call me perilously unperspicacious, but what does Scrooge have over Daffy? Huh?

I get it. Daffy is a workin' man's eider while Scrooge is Da Duck.

Oh yes!

Daffy Duck is - depending on the cartoon - either antic chaos personified, or a comically tragic figure hoisted by the petard of his weaknesses.

Scrooge McDuck as developed by Carl Barks and later Don Rosa in the 1980's and 1990's is highly unusual in that he is a "senior citizen" adventurer, if not just downright elderly (as well as eiderly).   :o

Unashamed and unapologetic about his success, Scrooge also offers a classic immgrant success story, and is not devoid of suffering assorted problems caused by his success and his constant striving for another treasure.

Disney missed the boat for decades by not recognizing the possibilities in the stories, until 25 years ago it finally created the Duck Tales series, which, however, inexplicably left out Donald Duck.

My students loved those cartoons, not knowing they were based on comic stories from the 1940's and 1950's.

I adore Daffy Duck-- there is no contest for me.

I would say that there is a bit of the Don Quixote in him-- such as on Duck Dogers (which Porky Pig is Sancho Panza), Duck Tracy, and of course, the Scarlet Pumpernickel.

Someone please remind me-- is it Duck Season or Rabbit Season?
